Backlinks for Videos? Is it possible?

Ok, here is another thread on this topic.

But, I know there is some really smart offline marketers on this subforum.

So, I have always thought that I can create backlinks for a Youtube video page. I have done this for months and swear that my videos have moved up in the local results for google. I create the backlinks and send them to this . It is an actual link or page so I thought that I was able to build these links. AND I SWEAR my videos moved up in rankings.

what do you guys think? can a person help rank youtube videos? (yes I already have these videos optimized with good keywords, etc.)

Yes, they do! I know that Google/Youtube also count embeded videos as backlinks.

But if you want a sure fire way to get backlinks, create a PDF document of an article and link your targeted keyword to the youtube video url.

Then upload it to doc sharing websites like docstoc, slideshare etc.

    Instant backlinks.

    Good luck,

    Jerry

Why wouldn't you be able to use backlinks to videos? They're just URL's.

If you want to track clicks via shorteners, you can use bit.ly, ow.ly, cli.gs, etc.

Not all videos will rank the same in Google. You'll notice that for some keywords, videos can show at the top of the first page, other videos at the bottom and some, not at all. Generally, "how to" videos can jump right to the top if it is optimized as such with your keywords.

Example: "how to repair a flat tire on a bike" will get your video at or near the top if you use that phrase as anchor text in your backlinks. The phrase "bike tire" on the other hand shows no videos on the first page; however, it will probably show images because it is clearly a thing for which an image is relevant. Research shows that no matter how many backlinks you build to a phrase like "bike tire," they won't help your video rank any better for it.

This is all according to my own testing and others may have different results.

Sure, I use BuildMyRank and Linxboss to build reference or backlinks to any Web 2.0 properties, like videos, articles, etc.! Very good. If you are doing this for local, be sure to use citations in the description and geo-tag in the map when editing the video on Youtube.

    • You can definitely rank videos just like any other content page. Obviously it helps tagging your video accordingly, adding a proper description and title. There are lots of benefits for doing all that, if your video rises in google for some of it's terms the amount of views it receives will rise as well and you might end up having the video go viral because it will rank internally (in youtube) better as well.

Whoever told you it's not possible to put anchor text links at your video pages and get them to rank is completely wrong.

Citations in the you tube description?? What is meant by that?

I know what citations are...whitespark tool for insider pages, yellow pages, etc. But not sure how that applies to a you tube video description. Someone help me out here, what am i missing?

You can absolutely rank your videos with backlinks. I do it all the time. One other awesome thing to do is before you upload your video to you tube, change the file name to your keyword. This will just give you tube something else to go by to figure out what to rank your video for.

Another great thing to do is to Say your keyword at the beginning of your video. YT can now transcribe voice :-)

Did you know each video on YouTube has their own PR? Its a great idea to promote your video and treat it like its your own website. I used this same strategy to get on the top youtube positions on the first page with my targeted keywords.
