Sponsored Listings in Places...?

Hey guys, I read a thread recently, either here or on another forum, can't remember where it is now, that said something about google providing sponsored listings for google places.

This was the first I had heard of it, after hitting google up a bit I found that it was the tag feature. I wanted to be clear about exactly what this was so thought I would ask the experienced members here.

If I understand it correctly, this doesn't mean that businesses can buy their way into the top positions right? It sounds as if you get some yellow tag and it becomes a part of your listing to I guess give you a bit more notice. The only pic I saw which wasn't a full pic looked as if it was a yellow tag attached as part of the site description.

It also sounds as if tags do not supposedly effect seo efforts either. I'm sure this will be a debatable issue, but at face value for now it isn't supposed to.

Just looking for clarification.

Oh, and are tags something that you encourage your clients to buy?

Thanks.

No there is a difference. You were right in the first place.

You can pay to have a sponsored Places listing. I know in my area it is under $100 per year. Google called my client and offered to them. Google said they guaranteed placement in the box for their keyword. I told my client to go ahead with it for the rest of his service areas. He would like to expand into other cities. It's easier to rank in a big city, and pay $200 for a couple of other cities to try out.

The tags, just help the listing stand out a little more. It's free for the first 30 days, then it's something like $25 a month.

Oh wow, will this not start putting a lot of consultants out of work in regards to google places as the sponsored listing becomes more well known and used by business owners?

      Hi,

So, what exactly are they offering for the $100? I can't seem to understand. From what I read, it sounds like they guarantee a place in the box, but which box do you mean? The 7 box?

      Please clarify a bit further?

      Kind Regards,
      Krzysiek

It doesn't guarentee a business a spot in the top 7. It says so in the agreement. If it did, Google would on be able to sell 7 per business type and then not let anyone else buy the tag. That would be a lot of management of all types of businesses in every city.

Also, they would have to guarentee it for certain keywords. Its not guarenteed at all.

Not sure reading this thread, but by chance are these sponsored listings actually a result of G's Boost product, not the tags?

Just checking as they are not available in all cities, yet, including my area.

Here is more info if you like:

I have had Google hit me up and try to sell me this service on behalf of clients of mine. I have had some clients that I have recommended to use it. However, to clarify, it does not guarantee a place in the top 7. Do some homework and you will find many industries in large cities where there are more businesses that have these than there are positions for them. Secondly, I only recommend it to my clients that I see it helping. Mostly high volume clients that want the extra push.
