If too long for your taste, read only the bold.

Okay, so here's the deal. This Friday I'll be meeting with a guy who owns a massage equipment and supply store that's been in business since 1986. He actually paid someone to create the website he currently has, which I seriously hope this was YEARS ago, and also has a blog somewhere in the world wide web collecting dust.
The good thing, however, is that he has spent on a PPC campaign (knows a little somethin' somethin' and should have some funds to take a risk), seems open to 90% of the ideas I threw at him over the phone, and is more than aware his site could use a major overhaul.

From his lips to my ears, he's very unhappy by the fact that he has a hard time updating his current website, and he'd love to have someone handling said updates, as well as the postings for his blog and maybe even the e-mails he sends out to those on his list.

This is his website: Body Logic. . Your Massage Therapy Supplies and Equipment Store - eBodylogic.com

Por favor mis amigos, throw any and every idea on how to revamp his site my way. I'll be working on a proposal to give to him this Friday and could use the extra help. Items of particular import would be a suggested wordpress e-commerce theme for his site and a pricing model.

I haven't gotten a chance to really sit down and plan anything out yet, had other things to do and didn't want to get ahead of myself, but this is what I have in mind so far:

A totally new wordpress e-commerce site (duh, lol). I haven't taken the time to look for a model site but something more modern and similar to this: Deprecated Browser Error meets this Massage Table| Massage Supplies & Products |BestMassage Warehouse

I'd incorporate his google place's store pictures onto the site and set up a more legitimate testimonials page and definitely make the site easier to navigate. I'd also include a map it form within his contact us page.

I'd make a separate site for his Continuing Education classes like Louie suggested. I'm thinking of having this be connected to his blog with his blog updates being centered around the CE classes he will be offering that month and highlighting complimentary products that can be found at his online store. (both sites would have a link leading to each other)

On the blog site, he would have a special resources page specifically for those who are new to the industry that would have an opt-in form in which they would receive a getting started e-book for new therapists. The e-book would detail some stuff they need to keep in mind as a new masseuse and products they will need to have which can all, of course, be found at his online store and would have a link leading to them. They would also have some more getting started info/specials sent to them over a series of 4-8 weeks or so.

Not too sure about this part but, the rest of the pages on his blog as well as his main website would have a simple subscribe for discounts & updates opt-in form above the fold with a coupon picture to reinforce the idea. They would then have their own auto-responder series that would center around the continuing education courses and this is the feed that the folks who signed up for the e-book would be switched over to once their 4-8 week series was over.

When presenting my proposal, I'd give him the option to go with my entire marketing plan, or to start small by keeping the one website and just revamping it, then tackling the separate CE/blog site after that, and lastly adding the autoresponder marketing program.

Okay, not everything I had in mind, but please let me know anything you think I should add or detract, and recommend a price & maintenance fee. This will be my first meeting with a potential client.

Make sure you move Stuart's opt-in box as well.
It shouldn't be on the bottom left, under everything.
He got the domain set up in '99, and it's registered until 2014.
The website itself could have been setup in December '08.
That looks like when his domain was last updated.

It also looks like the site has been setup through Yahoo.
If so, he might have done it himself. If he set up the website himself, make sure you get input from him along the way. Kind of like a checkmark.
Have him sign off on different parts as you go through.

    Otherwise, here's what could happen:
You create site, he likes it but would like some things changed.
You make the changes, he loves the changes, but has now noticed something else that he would like differently.
You make those changes, he wants different parts to look different.... Etc.

This is why I recommend you show him your progress as you go along and get his approval.
But, also tell him why you are doing things the way you are doing them.
That way you can eliminate any changes after completion.

      Thanks for the reply.

      1. Opt-in box is definitely getting moved above the fold and is something I mentioned to him while making my pitch to set the appointment.

      2. You're right. He said it's a Yahoo Marketplace site but he actually paid someone to make it . He's also having trouble keeping it updated and would love to have someone take that over for him.

      3. I couldn't agree more about keeping him in the loop. I'm going to make sure I get his input every step of the way just to be safe since this is my first project and has the potential to be huge.

Any more ideas? I'm presenting this tomorrow morning and haven't gotten much of a response here or on the other site I posted this on.

        Could really use some feedback.
