Outsourcing Questions:

Greetings,

So I've decided to hire someone to provide me a bit of assistance with my current workload and was wondering what everyones thoughts were on the different services out there. I'm looking for someone to assist me with a graphic design / website project that will include PHP, Ajax, MySQL, HTML 5.0, etc.

Where will I get the most "bang" for my dollar and which service would you guys suggest I use?

Elance?
Odesk?
Freelancer?
Fiverr?

I'm curious to see how different offliners have built their teams and what methods they use to do just that. I'm considering just breaking the entire project into different sections and having different people work on each. I'm also considering just pricing out the entire project. I've always handled everything on my own before so I'm kind of nervous and want to get some references before I dive in and just start throwing out money.

Hey Tiger Claw, in my opinion I would stay away from fiverr when it comes to graphics, website design, etc...don't get me wrong, I do use fiverr, but not for the technical stuff....I mean $5?!

I have had success with outsourcing to the Philippines..great workers and honest too...only problem is the power outages they experience..but that is a minor problem....are you familiar with John Jonas? He knows his stuff when it comes to outsourcing to the Philippines...take a look at his stuff..you can also check out onlinejobs.ph as well...

    Just my 2 cents

There are 2 types of people in this world....those who get it and those who don't. The ones that get it know exactly what we are talking about. The ones who don't are left scratching their heads.

I have worked with Elance and Odesk in the past. I found that I am most successful with Elance when it comes to fix price projects, especially for design jobs. When it comes down to coding applications and server side installation, which is done on hourly rate, then I will recommend Odesk, because of the level of supervision you have on your freelancer.

At the end of the day, outsourcing is not easy at the start. you need to start slowing and make very clear agreement with people to get good result.

I have had very good experienced with the dedicated staff from the Philippines for administrative jobs, all types of SEO related jobs, and article writing.

Thanks again for the responses. I'm going to see what I can do with Elance I suppose. I might start small with the project and move forward with it in stages. I guess we'll see what I can come up with.

TigerClaw - OnlineJobs.ph is a great website and it's where I hire pretty much everybody that I use. I usually use it for full time employees but I even found my main Wordpress + Graphics guy there who is a freelancer.

I wrote a review of OnlineJobs.ph answering many of the common questions also.

Since you've never heard of him before, here's my take on John Jonas

There are two ways to get access to OnlineJobs.ph.

The first way is to purchase a membership to Replace Myself, in which case OnlineJobs is included.

The second way is to simply sign up to OnlineJobs separately. I think it's $47/month and it's a good way to go if you ONLY want to do hiring and do not need any training tools whatsoever.

You can also simply use Craigslist Manilla, or look at BestJobs.ph which are obviously not run by John. Lots of options, but I definitely prefer the route of hiring a full time person to work only for me.

Well said Chris....I have hired a couple people through John Jonas and onlinejobs.ph and had success...never tried Craigslist before...

Also Tiger Claw...you have to make sure that your new hire has the proper training in what you want them to do, and if they don't you need to be extremely detailed in what you want done...I had to learn that the hard way..just make sure you guys are on the same page with everything and you should be ok...cheers

For smaller projects, go with fiverr. I have had good experience with them. If it turns out to be no good, you wont loose much.

I have been outsourcing for years. Before I got into IM. I highly recommend the Philippines and john Jonas site has some very good people there. Highly skilled and at very good prices. I have had workers there now for a number of years. I found the best one went I went there. I got them at great prices and they above and beyond what I expect.

There are some good workers on fiverr as well I found couple people on there that did some very good work. In fact I found an excellent graphics guy and copywriter there. Don't know where they were from.

Over the years, more companies in the textile trade have outsourced their production to China and elsewhere at low prices. Now we have evidence that outsourcing could actually make it less efficient firms.

Outsourcing has helped many employers and contractors big time over the years. It is definitely a cost save to outsource plus employers are able to help unemployed citizens to get a decent job. I had a good experience hiring someone from oDesk
