Congrats on your success and taking action there, but I would recommend you NOT use someone else's music unless you've purchased the rights to do so. Spend a few of the dollars you've earned and buy some royalty free music you can use without having to worry about copyright infringement.

Thanks guys, I have realised the best way is to use the situation you are in. Infact after that i went to work and asked my boss if they have a facebook fanpage for their business. And they don't.
I showed him some examples of customized funpages. he was like whoa u can do that?
So that is another $350 coming in like a day? or 2?

Get yourself Sony Vegas Pro (really worth it—it'll pay for itself even if you only do vids for your family), play around (there's a TON of useful Youtube videos) and watch some tutorials and crank out some more.

They're real fun to do, and can have quite the impact.

I've done a lot with my Zi8 (LOVE it!), software and pics...the fam loves them. Again, great job on going after it.

Proshow Producer is perfect software for this purpose, like owning your own Animoto. Very powerful for animated pics videos.

I have a Zi8 as well. The videos are great, but it takes awful pictures. And when I plug a mic in, it's very noisy, and just on one side (mono). I use Sony Vegas too but I have to convert the .mov files first. Don't you have these issues as well? Just curious.

    That was an awesome tale.....

I LOVE to hear about people thinking outside the box and making it happen...

The wedding thing in itself could be whole niche for you to only market to. And if you marketed yourself all over the world... there would never be a slow season....

    AWESOME!!!!

This is an awesome idea. The great thing is people are used to the price because with what they charge for wedding photography your price is a steal, especially for the work put it. It was WAY more for our wedding photo's and there was def. no music (you could hear me crying in the background)

I wonder if you could hook up with a wedding photographer for them to just shoot you over the photo's the couples pick. When you go meet your photographer after you wedding they show you a million pics and you pick like 20 or 40.

This would be a great marriage, no pun intended.

Another thought.... is to create a sales page... optimize it... then post search out all the wedding photographers and any other type of photographer for that matter. Then offer this service to photographers as an add on service they can use to sell thier clients.

This way your service is being sold by thousands of photographers all over the world. You provide marketing literature for your niche specific service, and they mark it up to make a profit.

You could also do this on the retail front from your website.

      Man...

I am just thinking out load here... but this could be your multi-million dollar idea. Imagine if you had a solid marketing plan directed at Photographers...
Recruiting them to be sales people for you.... WOW...

      Money in the bank.

        Amir great thinking, absolute stunner.
So you mean the website service would be to generate videos from the wedding pics taken by the photographers. They make some extra income, and i charge them for the service.

I hope I am not misunderstood.

The website would just be a sales page. Selling your service to Photographers ALL OVER THE WORLD.

And also retail customers as well.

Then start calling all the photographers letting them know about your service, pricing structure, etc...

and how they can sell the service to their customers.

You could also set up a demo site that is not branded so the photographers can show their clients what the finished product would look like.

The best way to get a photographer selling them is to offer them a video for free. Using the theory of reciprocity, becuase you did the first one for free to show them your skills, they will only order from you.

That way they can use their photos to display the video to their clients, and sell your service.

That's what thoughts came to mind... I don't know if I explained it any better or not.....

Jay - Yeah, there are a few issues.

But to be honest, some of them I'm not concerned with because as far as pics go, most are from another camera. And the ones that aren't don't bother me so much.

And I haven't thought about the mic thing...mostly because I haven't used the audio. I've made some "funny" vids (record scratch kind of stuff) and some serious vids as well.

I'll usually take video in 720/60 fps then slow it down in the software with a couple slower-mood tracks. The effect is really something.

It's made me realize you can really manipulate what you want people to experience with your videos just by changing the music and pace.

I really enjoy doing them for family and friends. (I haven't made too many, maybe 5-6) But the best part is Youtube teaches you how to do anything so if you're bored, you can learn a lot as an amateur! (Me.)

I'll have to check out the software you mentioned. It sounds good...

Edit: And by the way, that conversion issue did/does drive me bonkers. Converting does take a while. So does rendering I suppose. The worst is when you realize you made an editing mistake and want to re-do. Ugh.

Yep, video is fairly easy to do compared to a few years ago, but it does take time to render, upload, etc. The flip side is that it makes it feel good to charge for that

To charge? Yikes. I need to do what you guys are doing!

Of course, I haven't done it for others (although my wife says people would pay for memories strung together like that—as the op proved again) but maybe I should! Then I could finally get that smartphone I want.

      Wonderful idea!

      Here's a few thoughts...

If a church or a chapel has a newsletter/bulletin board etc. maybe you could advertise there. Make one about that particular church for free and the pastor might recommend you to couples about to be married.

Advertise on Craigslist for up-coming weddings OR have people send you their wedding pictures and make one out of those.

Don't stop at weddings. What other kind of events would someone like to have made into a video/slide show?

      Class reunions
Family get togethers (holidays coming up)
Someone's property with family and pets (to send to family members out of state
Property to promote the sale of their home
      Baby showers
      Anniversery party
      Bachelor party (maybe not, lol)

I'm sure you could think of others.

Hope this is useful for you, Eva

P.s. Not to forget videos of businesses, restaurants, etc.

This is a really great idea and rings true with my creative side. I love fooling around in Windows Movie Maker and adding music to videos just for myself. Who knew that little hobby could translate into a nice income?

The wonderful thing is a lot of most people won't complain when you quote those prices as wedding photography can be very expensive, also there's a large demand for this even with couples who've been together for sometime.

I also love what others said about joining forces with a wedding photographer or offering them this as a service.

Thanks for giving me a lot of ideas. The wheels are turning and need to take action before I come up with too many.

        OK....Hold Onto Yer Hats!

Back in 2007 I helped a buddy who was trying to get his "Wedding Photography" biz up and running.

We were chatting over some Latte's at the local espresso shop and WHALA....I got one of my "Hot Flashes".

As he was telling me what he does and how he does it and who his competitor's were and what they were doing....IT HIT ME!

        Here's what happens with most weddings;

        Engaged couple get together (usually with parents) to decide some things;
        1) Who will Officiate?
        2) Where will Reception be held
        3) What Photographer or VideoGrapher to use
        4) What Caterer to use
        5) What Florist
        6) What Tuxedo rental
        7) What Printer to print up the Invitations

There are more BUT....it was this "Printer" thing that grabbed me.

OK...a Printer prints up Invitations once Date and Location of Ceremony is decided. Both future Bride and Groom and their families decide WHO will be sent an Invitation. A list is made....Invitations are picked up and mailed.

NOW....what if some of the people receiving the Invitations CAN'T MAKE IT to the Wedding? For whatever reason. BUT....they'd REALLY love to come but can't!

So...why don't you (my Photog buddy) provide a Website where YOU (or an assistant) .....will take DIGITAL STILL SHOTS of the ceremony AND reception....and place them UP ON THE WEBSITE the Day After the Wedding!

Now...since most weddings are held on Sat....this could be done on Sunday so ....PHOTOS OF THE WEDDING WOULD BE AVAILABLE TO BE SEEN ON SUNDAY....THE DAY AFTER THE WEDDING!!

So....this means those folks who couldn't attend....could SEE Photos the Day After....rather than wait weeks for the "Albums" to arrive.

Now....I grabbed a Domain called, "InstantWeddingPhotos.com"...which I thought perfectly described the service.

And....on the Invitations would be printed a comment saying that" Digital Photos of the Wedding and Reception would be posted on our website the day after the wedding. Just go to www.InstantWeddingPhotos.com !

Holy Schamoly....I thought my Photog buddy was gonna have a Stroke!

HERE was a Service NO OTHER Photog was providing and ONLY HE could provide this to HIS CLIENTS!

Yippee I Yi Kay! Get along little doggies!

So....we went about setting this up and he captured MUCH business that year. I even went to some local Reception Halls and provided this "service" to them...)with a girl I paid to take the digitals and put them up on the site)...which helped the Hall get MORE Weddings.

People could go up to the site and see the wedding photos. I provided special PassWords to those who did NOT want the "general public" to see THEIR Photos (which was most everyone)

I even set up some Wedding Photogs in other towns...giving THEM the Exclusive for this service so THEY could offer this to wedding clients and...which would bring them MORE weddings because they were offering something other Photogs weren't.

Then....my Photog Buddy got "Greedy" and pulled some shenanigans. Strange how, when BIG money starts rolling in..."some" people let their Greed Glands get the best of them.

So...I dropped the project and went onto other things...HOWEVER...this SAME identical "service" could be provided NOW...even with someone just taking Digital Still Shots and posting them on a website. Although, with Windows Movie Maker or Photo Story 3 etc .... it'd be just as easy to make a DVD from Stills!

Anyway..."Food for Thought" on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

        Hope this encourages someone.

          That's a GREAT idea!

Since I am not that technical , would there be a way where the people that were given the password to watch your photos, so that they could upload their photos or better yet, somehow send them to you, for you to enhance them? Because that way, everybody could participate and if you put a deadline for lets say a week to get their photos in, you could then use all of them. Even burn them to dvd's and mail them out or something like that?

          Thanks in advance, Eva

Eva.....no need to get "technical" with this. Just provide a simple 'Java Script" that allows Family & Friends of Bride & Groom to just..."Enter" to see the digital photos that were taken. We made up an "Album" montage of Thumbnails....with 4 photos across and 5 down. Clicking on a thumbnail brought up larger photo.

No need to make it any more "technical" than that.

However....if you were to create a "Slide-Show Video" with the Digis and some "Wedding or Romantic" music in background.... and....allowing the Video to be downloaded....would boost the fee you charge clients.

I was there at the first few meetings my Photog buddy had with potential customers and...when they discovered they could provide Guests who couldn't make it to wedding to be able to SEE Photos the NEXT DAY...they were "overcome" and "Signed On" immediately.

NO other photog had even mentioned that "benefit" to them. And it got my Photog buddy BEU-COUX biz.

            Well worth looking into.

Java? Sounds like a real strong cup of coffee to me, he, he, he. And, I do understand what a "download" is, can actually perform that task myself but "allowing" someone else to do it, over my head, sad to say.

However, I'm not just going to sit here and write it off just because I'm confusing a Java Script with coffee. I will just Google it and try to figure it out myself unless of course, someone feels like enlightening me

All kiddin' aside, what's easy is something YOU know how to do. Once I know how, it will be easy for me too, lol. And yes, I will look into it!

Related to "makin-moola from weddings"....I went by a local coffee shop where the owner of a local "Wedding Venue" has java every morn (On his winery he built a beautiful "Wedding Area", complete with stream, waterfall, pond and lots of green grass.

Ran my "Instant Wedding Photos" idea by him and he went "Ga-Ga". In January when folks start Booking the site for summer weddings....he'll be offering this "Service" of "Digital Photos" uploaded to his website....the DAY of the Wedding!

He'll have his daughter do the photos and web work....AND....he made me "promise" I wouldn't give this to any of the other 4 competitors.

So...what this tells me is....THIS idea is STILL Viable and....those who provide the Whole Enchilada....setting and reception area....WILL pay for this "service"....provided they have an "Exclusive" for their area.

Look in your local YP under "Weddings" and see how many Venues are listed. Just ONE per town can pay your mortgage every month!

After reading a couple of posts here, i thought it was time to take action, and with my own approach.

So it was wednesday of last week when i was still trying to look for a way to implement these offline marketing strategies i was getting from this forum, when my Mom called me about her friends wedding that was happening on Saturday at our church. I was to be of help in carrying whatever was presented.(general assistance)

I felt like she had ruined my offline marketing plans. So i figured a way of how to still make sure i go about it from the situation presented.

I thought if i could take pictures of these couple at the wedding and produce them, well! this might work, but to shorter extent, since there are plenty of photographers who are usually hired, and also this was not anything to do with any kind of online activity. Suddenly an idea popped up, i will take the pictures then convert them into videos for them.

    so here is exactly what i did;
-I took pictures of the couple using my iphone (Did't even have a camera) did not take a lot of pictures neither, like 15.
-Then at home I uploaded the pics on my computer.
-I fired up windows movie maker and uploaded the pics there to make a video.
-I did not want the video to look just empty so i wanted some romantic song playin along with it.
-I went to youtube and searched for a love song. I used Mariah Carey's-Always be my Baby.
-Went to Google searched for Online Video Converter.
-Converted the video to audio and included it into the movie maker.
-I also added love, flowers and chocolate images at an interval of like 3 videos. This made it look even more professional.I just got the images from google.
-After everything was done i burned the movie content into a DVD-RW.

Then on tuesday I called up the guy and told him i had made a video out of his wedding pictures and i was sure he would love to see it. He was actually so eager that he asked if he could pass by my mom's house to check it out. i told him i was in my apartment and not my mom's house. He wanted the address as well.

Anyway to make the long story shorter i took it to his house on wednesday. They were playing and replaying the video with the wife. They just felt so proud.

The guy asked me how much for the job well done?

I told him i usually charge $850 but i will make it $650 for them.

he promised to hit my paypal up on thurday. Just checked my paypal account, am hooked man. Let me go get a drink or two.

P.S: This is something anybody can do. Now look for weddings
P.S: Valentine's day is just about, looking for a huge payday opportunity. You can do this as well.
Studly, great to hear and congratulations

    This is awesome. Congratulations!

I do similar things. Unfortunately not often. I combine it with taking photographs and making sites-photoalboms.

In addition, lately my clients were my friends and I simply could not charge them...

But friend of mine does this regularly. Taking photographs only. He is busy almost every weekend.

    Good luck!

THIS is Sooo Easy! Anyone with a simple Digital Camera.....I "dare" you to go visit any Photog who has a Storefront or Space in a Mall....just walk in with your Digital (mine is an "EasyShare C613")

Tell them you have a way for them to; DOUBLE their wedding business and make an extra $400 per Wedding! (Photog charges $800 per "Instant Photos" and you charge photog $400)

Do you think the photog will want to "Listen" to what you have to say?

      You bet yer boots!

I was in a big 300 rm Hotel yesterday and while I was in the Events Mgrs office I saw a brochure selling their "Wedding Receptions' and whala.... there on an inside page was a full panel on their "Digital Photo" service where they would have one of their staff take "Digitals" and post them ON their website....the Next Day!

So....the "Instant Wedding Photo" thing is still alive and kicking!

Yes, this can definitely go in some countries...but in others will not work....300$ for a facebook page design is almost the average monthly salary in some countries. Anyway, your ideas are great!

Midasman - I dont know about the US but virtually every wedding photographer in the UK offers a password protected online "gallery" for family and friends to view within a day or two for free or as part of a package... Can't see much mileage in selling a service there.

I can't believe you charged that much for 15 photos on Windows Movie Maker! Imagine high end video making softwares with cool effects, like flipping through a photo album! Thanks for sharing what worked for you!

Thanks for the story, that was better entertainment as on TV.
The next step is to give the video to wedding planners who will book you on demand.
    Cool thing!!

Thanks for the story. I was thinking something like that but I do not know the ways to find customers for my service. Some suggest to market on your facebook page, but if you do not have many friends or fans it will not work.
