Categories in Google Places Listing

In filling out the categories for different clients should you add the town with what the client does? ie, lawyer in city, or, and, city + lawyer?

Another question, if a client specializes in different areas of their specialty do you want to put the different areas or just stay with the gereral business that they are in? ie, tax lawyer, family lawyer, traffic lawyer or just lawyer?

Thanks in advance,

Tony

  • Hi Tony,

Adding GEO KWs to the cats will likely get your clients listing pulled off the net and it can be a nightmare for you and them. I've never had a clients listing suspended or anything but I can't imagine how hard it would be.

You need to very carefully read the guidelines as MANY things are prohibited that can get the listing rejected and they don't always come right out and tell you what they mean.

For cats you need to pick one that G suggests, then after that you can make custom categories and should use all 5 if they are needed because the main KW that could rank are the ones in the cats.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

Don't do it. I've got one client that had done that previously and gotten their page sandboxed. You'll be off the listing so fast your head will spin...

First question... NO, NO, NO, NO

Second question, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes

Just remember, you have to state what you are, not what you do. So, family lawyer is fine... family law is not acceptable.
