Just got off the phone from a UK directory 'city visitor' representative, they informed me that with a new website, it is put in the sandbox for 6 months - and there is no way to get the website listed before then, I need to get more links to my site with h1 tags ?, Google place positions are rotated, but they can get a business there within 72 hours, and there listings generally get 20% of the traffic ( despite being bottom of the page for the particular keyword we were looking at ).

I tried to explain there was a difference between optimising for google places and organic search.

I have been promised a call back, and the opportunity to learn more.

cant wait.

Just my .02 - these guys obviously have NO IDEA what they're doing (like 99% of the so-called "SEO Companies" out there).

A new website is put in the sandbox for 6 months? Maybe if you're doing something really spammy, which again, comes down to not knowing what you're doing.

I have NEVER had a site sandboxed. In fact I often manage to get in the Top 30 the first day my site is indexed.

If they're doing the SEO work, why are they asking YOU to build backlinks? Maybe I misunderstood...

Google Places listings are rotated? Since when? I very rarely see the listings rotated, unless I get involved and start SEO'ing a listing.

It's quite frustrating to learn there are cowboys out there like this. Gives all us Local SEO Consultants who actually DO know what they're doing a bad name.

Well I hope you don't pay money to this company - "if" it takes 6 months in the sandbox, it's because THEIR site isn't optimized or crawled.

I've never heard of a site taking 6 months to be found on G. Heck, even sites that have virtually nothing on them are found within a few weeks usually.

Yes, H1 tags help to optimize if the keywords are used correctly, but if it takes these guys 6 months - I'd run in the opposite direction and tell them maybe they better actually LEARN the internet first.

Taking 6 months to get a new site listed is a blatant lie and fear tactic. Sounds like they just want 6 months of your money.

They ( city-visitor )were actually calling the links, H1 tags.

Just remembered another of their manufactured statistic, only 11% of people click on google places listings.

    11% My A$$!

And since when is a header tag, the same thing as a link.

Tell these people to take their offer, and shove it where the sun don't shine.
Google Places pages don't get rotated unless someone is doing SEO.

Also if you know what your doing, a site doesn't get "Sandboxed" for 6 months.
I can get sites active, indexed, and bringing in traffic in 72 hours.

And they are telling you, that you will get 20% of the traffic, even though you are at the bottom? Sounds like that's is all they aim for. Oh, you're on the first page, we did our job.

Ask for some references, then contact those references and offer your services.
If you know how much this company charges, and how sh!tty their methods are...
If they give you references you have guaranteed clients.

    Hi Philboy
They are talking crap. I put up a site last week; have a keyword domain match name with 1 article link on a keyword that has 14,000 searches a month (exact) and it is currently on page 5 of Google. I would keep away from them. Go through some of the older posts here on the forum and you will learn all you need to get started in offline marketing.
