OFFLINE MARKETING

Wow, Just the little bit of SEO webdesign, and other knowledge I have learned from this forum puts me in another league in the offline world.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but in general the internet is still a mystery to the huge majority.

I have tried a little bit of offline ,marketing and anyone I speak to seems to be in Awe of knowledge that I have ( Its very limited but I learn everyday)

Most people believe that Google rankings are just something that happens and can never be controlled. When I rank them for very specific keywords like 'physiotherapist in "random suburb"' after a few months with an exact match domain name they think I am all powerful.

With a little bit of knowledge and the ability to talk to random people the offline market could make you a fortune with very little work ( the words very little work are if compared to most 9-5 jobs).

In conclusion in reality the internet is still in its infancy and there are many many small and medium businesses out there that do not want or need heaps of traffic, 1 visitor a day if it is the right visitor could be the difference between border line bankruptcy and high profits.

I am only in the very beggining of my offline journey but it is enough for me to realise the potential. Good Luck all

It works both ways; almost amusing in fact that online and offline are completely different worlds to eachother. Fully integrated offline/online marketing brings it all together. That is where the biggest opportunity lies.

I like your description of different worlds. But that is the hard part and the part that cuases everyone to give up. Integration can be so difficult, not to mention finding the clients to bgin with. Most people do not have the exprience, knowledge or willpower to succeed unfortunately.

I know what you mean. I had this recently when a local carpenter asked me what I could do for him.

I created a LBL for him and he was number 1 on Google for his local search term within 10 minutes - without even having a website.

He couldn't believe I got him in Google above all those websites within minutes and decided I must be a wizard or something

Never one who is scared to ask a stupid question, because that is how I learn, but what's an LBL ?

Hehe - no problem.

It's a Google thing - you know the map listing that shows up when you search for local businesses with a letter next to it.

You can create them for free and put their business details on (including images and videos) and it will show - usually above the normal website listings. If you get it right you can find terms where no other business have LBLs and your client will be the only one showing right above all the other results.

They go live quickly and can be a great way to show them how quickly you can get them visibility. They also have stats so you can see how many people clicked on them.

I agree Cathy.

Even the smartest businessmen I've met, when it comes to internet/internet marketing are virtually clueless. The few that know a little are still unable to apply it successfully. The opportunities offline are too huge to even measure, really.

But most important, I've found the amount 'real' businesses (offline) can spend is many multiples of what online businesses spend. A recent client of mine was spending $1200 a month for a phone book listing. When you can offer better results for less money, it's not a hard sale.

It's amazing how just talking to people about what you do online can bring you clients. I wasn't even looking for offline work when that started to happen. The very first time someone offered to pay me to do some SEO on their business website I told them "but I'm not an expert." To them, I am an expert because I had knowledge they didn't. Very quickly I learned that people will pay you for what you know even if you haven't set yourself up as an expert. The internet is constantly changing, and we are always learning.

You might not be talking to people about what you do online because you think they won't "get it." I'd urge you to try it. Tell people what you do. You'll be surprised at how many people, especially businesses, will want to hire you.

That is so true! But, if I try to explain how it works, the interest drops like a lead balloon!

What clients want is the result - emails & calls from hungry customers. If you provide that, then the checks flow pretty easily.

I've also noticed that I can usually beat the big SEO operators (you may guess who they are) by half the price - and get better results to boot! And my clients are absolutely delighted when this happens!
