First Time Offline Marketing- How Much Should I Charge

I'm going to start implementing my offline plan this Monday and start calling local businesses in NYC to get a Facebook fanpage/ button up on their website. There is a lot of demand for this and I see business owners who "get it" jumping on the social marketing bandwagon. I'm really excited about this because I love to see my local businesses thriving. But...

How much should I charge for a service like this? I've never set this up for a business before even though I know how to do it. Someone is charging $500 for this. I'm not sure I should charge this much as I don't want anyone to think I'm ripping them off.

How much should I price this for an offliner starting out?

$500.00 is a great price point provided a couple of things:

    - The business owner is willing to pay it.

    - You are confident the service will bring in $5,000.00 a month for the business.

Give a 10X ROI and you will always have happy customers.

If you aren't confident of that value, drop your price point. If you want the option of raising it back, male the lower price point a first X number of clients special.

You don't need to give a 10x(1000% roi)

As a business owner, and a consultant who deals with business owners every day, we would all jump for something that gave even a consistent 120% ROI.

If you tell me I can get $600 in topline sales for $500 I would take it. Again though, it's going to depend on their margins.

I will say I have fans because of 250% roi projects.

I am doing diservice throwing around ROI when I really mean every advertising dollar spent should bring in ten of gross profit. If you have 20% profit margins and $500.00 brings in $5000.00, that is a 200% ROI. Any business owner would be happy. Bring in $2.50 gross for every $1.00 spent and he needs a profit margin of 40% to break even.

Look at how many hours your going to be putting into it, and put a price on your time. Of course, this price will be approximate, but still should give you a good idea of what you will charge for a given task.

I don't quite understand what you say you're trying to do here. Sounds like to me that you desire to sell a customized Facebook fan page logo to businesses in New York City. Am I correct?

That's correct, there's a noticeable demand for this. Though, for some businesses it wouldn't fit in with the feeling of their website.

I'm also thinking about creating music for restaurants to play over their sound system as I have experience with that or writing a couple of articles for local businesses and submit them to Ezine Articles. Each of these services cost different amounts and I'm wondering how much to charge for this. But these are just an idea and I nee to handle one thing at a time.

You should charge 0 for first client. Your not going to do everything you think you can starting out and the money shouldnt be too much of a hit, but messing up and expecting payment can hurt your reputation much more in the long run.

/\ That's why I'm planning to offer services I am competent in and have skills with, offering a service you don't have any experience in is asking for trouble and a lawsuit.

I know not to mess around with someone else's business, especially here in New York.

I charge $350 to $750 depending on the complexity of the page. Obviously NYC may bear a higher price than my market in Atlanta!

It is important to build trust as well as confidence in your abilities before charging higher prices. I would recommended that you continue to do some research on what others are charging for the same or similar service. Once you have delivered the service to your first client you will be amazed at how much confidence you will get from that first transaction. Your clients will also thank you.
