The reason I ask is I work with a large SEO/PPC/SOCIAL Consultants in the UK, Ive been here for about 6 month now and have learnt a lot. Mostly I work with PPC but I am already quite well versed in SEO from my previous 2 years as an affiliate.

So now its time to start getting my own private clients and eventually leave. What I wondered was what are peoples favorite techniques for acquiring new clients.

Think this would be really usefull for other users also to get a nice collections of other off-liners techniques for bagging new clients

Thanks in advance

This will be an interesting post to follow to see what experienced marketers have to say.

Be careful with your employment as a lot of employers are not happy with employees working outside of work and particularly in a similar line of business.

I haven't found anything faster than telemarketing. Frequently we can close clients in days from anywhere.

Direct mail. If you want to do it successfully though, you have to position yourself as the expert in your area. This isn't easy to do if you're hiding it from your employer.

The fastest way: Telemarketing as myob says
My favorite way: Client attraction sites. The method is described in this WSO:

      The first thing I do is go to Google Places for the area I want to farm: "Dentists Jackson Mississippi" for example;

Then I check to see if they have claimed their listing - If not, I send them a postcard (Snail Mail) explaining why this is important to their business (No business pitch - Just a friendly heads up)

Next, I check to see if they actually have a web site - No web site = another possible income stream -

A couple of days later, I send them a letter - This time explaining who I am and what I do in some detail and ask them to call me for more info (Note: If they call you this is an extremely hot lead and needs to be followed up on immediately)

      Hope this helps:

Mike what a great post and absolutely practical for offline marketing!!

UKCarl, nearly 100% of my full time income comes from offline marketing in the last 25 years. I rarely advertise for new business, if ever. My secret sauce amongst other avenues for finding new prospect/customers is so KISS simple - I will only list 3 if you don't mind:
        1. Your Local area Newspapers: Look at local news about local-area businesses and business ads - goldmine )
        2. Your mail box is your friend: Junk Mail in my letter box is very much welcomed! I get piles of local business flyers, brochures, business cards, magnets etc etc in my mailbox everyday - swing low sweet chariot! How good is that!!
        3. Your Car: Drive around ANY business zone in your city and start taking down business names - then go to Uncle G to drill down each of those business names for more information and you will see a strategy bubbling up...$$$
This is NOT new revelation - its pretty much standard for us offliners
Oh yes, I will add a fourth point: get use to initial hard work, hard-wire your persistency and consistency, and believe in what you do (trust me, you'll need this when doubt creeps in)
        Hope this helped you some.
        Byrt

Well the best answer to this question may be to go on offering what they require at cheaper rates......

Get out and do mini-talks - 10 minutes at breakfast and lunch meetings.

I realize you have a full-time job currently which makes this challenging to implement. Still, my best return on investment has been talks and following up by phone with interested prospects.
