Why does offline have to be local?

Hi,

Why does so much of offline marketing entail local business and meeting with the client etc?

Why can't it be done solely on the phone/Net? I have kind of dablbled in this area and somettime sthink about really getting into it but it's the "one on one " meetings" that suck up time that kind of put me off...

if you sell basic web design/marketing, SEO, why can't you sell "non local"?

    1. Doesn't necessarily have to be local

    2. I believe "local" refers to the key phrases being targeted having a city or town within them, which reduces the amount of competition, making seo easier.

It can, you don't need to be in LA to target businesses in LA as clients. Local is simply a way of narrowing down a niche to find sub-niches that work.

Delivering results is easier cause its smaller than targeting on a state, county, national basis

Local generally relates to a brick and mortar business as opposed to a global online business. Because they have a physical location we call it a local business which usually draws its clients from the surrounding area or cities.

Gee we do local marketing for businesses all over the world because of our reputation so you do not have to be trudging the pavement.

Of course if you do not have a name or getting referals from any business yet then you may have to do some leg work to get started.

In the end results speak for them selves so if you can get results then you will not have to do one on ones for long.

Thing is local gives you a standing in a comunity / area which you can then build on and spread your wings.

I have never heard that offline must be local. We market nationwide as many companies will have multiple outlets also such as retail/fastfood chains, franchisees etc.

I have clients all over the USA. Many are relationships I've had for 10 years or more, and have never met them in person.

well it was the impression I got from many offliners.....All the "meetings, face to face, etc.." I am fully aware of local SEO but I got the impresion from many to close sales you had to do it the "old fashioned face to face way.." Not that that puts me off it's the time element of it all. And being free to live out of the city in the sticks etc i love.

That's why I kind of thought "Why does it have to be that way?" Are offline businesses only willnig to sign up with people they actually meet?

    Thanks anyway.

It doesn't at all. And it can be done successfully over the phone/net.

However, starting out, how much effort do you have to put in to get clients nationally and would that be more effective face to face? Would you have a higher closing ratio and get more referrals with face to face? Also being able to go see the referral face to face?

I think you can start up and get income much faster if you focus on your local market. Then why not leverage you current local customers into testimonials you can videotape and put on a site where you get national business?

I don't think its an local or national question, but a local and national question. And for people starting out? They should go local first.

That is what I am doing and I plan on have a site where I can get auto repair shops nationally to sign up with me.
