Should I Feel Guilty Paying A VA This Amount?

This is in follow up to a thread I posted a while back regarding VA's. I have found a virtual assistant who is overseas and seems to be very qualified in many different areas plus has good references. However she only charges $12.50 a day or if by the month at $325.

I feel guilty hiring her for this amount. Should I?

Don't pay that if you feel guilty.

Or pay $500 a month and the VA will enter the top 5% of wage earners in the country.

I'll take some heat for this, but when we westernize a culture, we rarely do them favors. I've spent a lot of time in Africa and India and giving more money without education doesn't work the way we think it would.

What does the market say should be the pay?

Let's think about it from our perspective. If you hired a VA in the US for $35K you might think they are doing OK since that's the national average. So let's say you feel guilty for paying $35K... how much more, for the same work that the worker actually thinks is fair compensation, should you pay?

Can't figure out why you think you should feel guilty for paying this woman what she ASKED for.

If she works out well, you can always bestow a monthly bonus and really make her happy.

Yes. Give her a raise to 25.00 per day or something.

Paying it forward is also sowing seeds for your Karmic return.

nah, there is a lot of work. make sure you give her the tools needed and help her learn what she needs to so the next job she gets will pay a lot more, or she can start her own seo company or whatever.

If you feel guilty, hire someone in your local area.

You have to understand that the value of the dollar, or pound, depending on where you are... is different in every country.

Here is a comparison link. It will show you the average salary for someone in the Philippines vs. someone in the US. I don't know if this is where your VA is from, but you can look it up for that country as well.

Perhaps tell her that if she delivers results consistently you will gladly double her salary. There's a happy medium.
