Looking for Cost for TRADITIONAL offline advertising (Yellow Pages, Newspapers, Radio, etc.)

Looking for some ballpark figures for traditional offline advertising such as newspaper ads, yellow pages ads, radio ads, etc.

I realize these can vary wildly according to market and venue, etc.

I was hoping some people could post some pricing that they personally know about and what the context is. For example, say you know that in a newspaper that serves a community of 100,000 a quarter page ad is $x-amount, etc.

Thanks in advance for any contributions.

Have you considered calling some of the publications in question and asking them?

Yes, but I'm looking for a wide variety of prices, not just in my local area. Just thought this might be a quick way to get an overview of the different types of pricing.

You are asking for a lot lol

Backpage post the names of newspapers in different cities, they also list the amount of viewers but you have to call for pricing. They are priced from $10 to $70 weekly for classified ads.

You can google the name of the city and newpaper or sunday paper and find prices. I do this all the time. But for me to post prices, that would take all day.

Just looking for "off the top of the head" info. ... There's a vast wealth of info contained in the top of the head of a lot of posters here.

The experience of posters here is far and wide, and I'm sure if I could even get 10% of them to rattle off some numbers that they "happen to know," then I could come up with a very detailed outline of offline advertising prices in the U.S.

Of course even 10% is asking too much, but if a few of the right people stumble across this post, I'm sure I could still get an interesting outline. That's all I'm looking for.

As someone mentioned above... rate card rates are all over the place. What you paid for a 1" x 1" ad I got a full page newspaper ad for $335.93 (with a list price of $7253.67 which is a whoppin' 95% off.).

Oh I didn't pay it. :-) I would never waste money like that. And my paper has a lot wider of a readership than yours.

To the OP, do some homework and call the newspapers and yellow pages in the area. Regardless of the pricing info you find, you'll be able to undercut them by a hell of a lot.

Call your cities paper, yellow pages, etc and get quotes.

Then what you do is call 3 or 4 other cities and do the same.

My guess is in 2-3 hours you have all the info you need.

Prices vary greatly by locale and publication.

The right way to get this information is to contact the publishers and ask them for their "Rate Card" for the type of advertising you want to know about.

        Regards,

        John

        There ya go.

And you'll know the numbers are accurate because you did the research.

One thing to understand about rates, you can make deals with many papers. I used to set up advertising in the U.S. for many mom and pop retail businesses. If you advertise 4 times or more, you can often get a much better price and location in the paper.

How do you have 200+ posts on a marketing forum and not know how to quickly find some basic info on offline marketing. I am not dissing ya just surprised. Its easy to find rate cards or average CPMs for various media advertising and it sounds like you have population, so now all u need is some 4th grade math skills. In my experience you can always negotiate lower but it takes some practice to find the lowest without getting the media agents sick of dealing with.

If you have a specific format you are thinking of PM me, I have bought and negotiated just about every type from national TV to local radio.
