Thanks for the post, it's a nice video. Everyone is talking about QR codes and how they are going to be the biggest thing of 2011, but people need to understand them for them to be widely accepted. The more videos and education people have on them the better, that way the businesses will be willing to use them and people will see them everywhere.

Good food for thought. I haven't taken the QR code plunge because I figured most of my customers won't even know about them. Seems like I need to reconsider this.

Well...it depends on who your customers are at this point in the game.

If you're consumer-centric, this is a no-brainer.

If you're B2B, it's a little bit more difficult to rationalize yet.

i was wondering something, i dont really understand how this appeals to companies/businesses if you must have a QR code reader on your phone already, and since QR codes are basically unheard of no one really has them on there phone let alone know what they are.

Let me fax you some info on it. Where are you, the dark ages?

Just yesterday Cnet reported this for the 4th quarter of 2010:
"...the market as a whole continues to swell. Overall, 63.2 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during the quarter, a 60 percent increase from the fourth quarter of 2009."

That number, 63 MILLION is expected to continue to grow exponentially in the next 18 months. Where do you want to be, in front of the wave, or behind it.

The fact that not many business owners know about QR codes is EXACTLY why this is a golden opportunity for those who jump on this now. It's an easy attention grabber and conversation starter with business owners. They love it. Walk in and show them what it can do and they instantly get it and they want it now.

I sold websites to businesses over 15 years ago and fewer than 63 million people at the time even had ACCESS TO THE INTERNET! Just because you may not be able to see the impact of innovation in technology on businesses doesn't mean your clients won't get it either.

Get educated. Then get to work and make some money.

QR Codes have yet to take off across the board. I liked Quentin's self-promo ideas he shared last month. As a content marketer I'm excited to see where this can go in content delivery but don't expect QR Code to get a real foot hold until the end of the year or next year for that matter.

I think it's important, at least in the US to begin speaking to your clients now about it. When it does become mainstream you're going to be the one they turn to!

On an aside, SMS texting is already widely accepted, so at least get your foot in the door by offering this immediately.

My sales reps are also demonstrating NFC (near field technology) to our clients nationwide, which is expected to be even more imminent in the US.

  I want to start offering QR codes. I really believe they will be big in the near future.
  
  So it's best to get in now (start educating prospects/clients) before everyone and their mother is trying to sell them. By the time everyone is talking about them, it's too late.

This is a great post. I've been interested in QR codes since I got my first smartphone that had the ability to read them and I've scanned every one I've seen since! I just find it interesting to see what kind of data they have embedded in them!
