Google screws me up so badly

Hi there,

I rank my customer website on page 1 of Google for both organic search and Google Places.
The website ranks no.2 for organic search and ranks "E" position on Google Places.
Yesterday, the website for organic search that ranks no.2 was disappeared. Meanwhile, the ranking for Google Places was moved up to "A" slot.

The customer just calls me and tells me that he doesn't want to pay a monthly fee for SEO anymore because the website is no longer on page 1 for organic search but he still pays me a monthly fee for Google Places. Damn, I charge him a monthly fee for SEO two times more than Google Places. I don't know what is going on here. Google screws me up so badly. What should I say to customer to keep him paying a monthly fee for SEO ?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I have found that when Google finds 2 the same websites on 1st page it will religate one of them to the back pages. Google usually prefers the local listing over organic.
Personally I don't waste my time struggling with Google Maps or Places, there's so many other things to offer local businesses.

Maybe focus on satisfying your customers instead of cheating them out of their money. It's absolutely disgusting to read **** like this where you're blatantly stating that you are no longer providing the service promised to your customer, yet are still asking how to get money from them.

You need to learn how to do good business to be a good businessman. This means stand by your word and if you tell him that he will pay only if he's on the first page, then do as you said.

There's a reason why Google says in its guidelines that first page position should never be promised by SEO's. It's people like you who try to squeeze every penny out of customers for giving them nothing, and then they are scared ****less like cats when you try to approach them again with similar services.

Perhaps a little education for your customer re: how Google works needs to be done (i.e., what some refer to as the 'Google dance').

Are you working at getting and keeping the website itself on page one? That could be difficult. If the website contains pages of content, I would work on getting each page to rank highly for its keywords.

When the Google music stops whoever doesn't have their a** in a chair is SOL.

          Just kidding,

But I think what smwordsmith said is correct

Perhaps a little education for your customer re: how Google works needs to be done (i.e., what some refer to as the 'Google dance').
As you know positions change all the time. The thing is your customer might have checked the site an hour later and the ranking may have returned.

But I do think you should offer different services that aren't so dependent on an algorithm change (or Google's fairy magic).

          Like Zoro stated

Personally I don't waste my time struggling with Google Maps or Places, there's so many other things to offer local businesses.
Use places to get in the front door then show them how to use the web to get what they want which usually is an increase in the bottom line.

Show them how you can get more prospects and turn more of those prospects into customers.

I think you should change your positioning to show other values you are delivering to your client. You obviously used "1st page of Google" which should never be promised since Google changes rules all the time. My two cents

It sounds like you did not have an agreement for the "keyword phrases" or search terms you were hired for. Did the keyword have 'local' results?

      Yes, I did.
I have an agreement to rank 1 keyword "city + keyword" on page 1 of Google.
The keyword has "local" results- Google Places.
Google mixed my client organic results with Google Places.
Now his website shows on Google Places only. No show on organic results.

      Thanks,
