You cant edit Google Places

I went to edit some information in Google Places listings for one of my businesses and now I need to re-enter a pin number. So now it says it needs to be done before it is published.

All, I did was go in an add some information and change 1 or 2 things. Is this normal? I guess you must have everything perfect the 1st time.

Help me out here. Is this right?

    Hi Tommy

    Just checking.

Did you change the phone number or the business title?

If so, you usually get hit by Google for a short while.
Maybe they have instigated a new editing feature to keep us on our toes???

    Regards

  • Hi,

I changed the phone number and one of the catagories. What do you know about editing them, or adding to them? I want to add some additional info to another one, but do NOT want to have to verify again.

      Hi Tommy

The two things that will cause you to have to confirm that its you are:-
      1) Changing the phone number
      2) Changing the business name/title

Changing categories doesn't require you to re-confirm.

Looks like you need to seek a new PIN and confirm.

A bunch of the existing threads specifically on Google Places in this section might also be worth checking as they have covered this issue and you may find a few extra tips.

      regards

If they verify your account with a phone number and you change it, you can bet they'll want to verify your new phone number.

Just have to do it again. If you change the number or business name that'll almost always cause a re-verification.

If change the business name: that means they call again to the initial number or send postcard?

Certainly! You've identified yourself as "A" then after they verify that, you change it to "B" so they'll do that same verification process again, otherwise there would be no point in verifying in the first place (if you could just change the info however you see fit).

They do this to legitimize the listings and avoid spam.

      Hi Lisa

If you change anything else you are fine. It's these two things that Google seeks verification on again.

      1) Changing the phone number
      2) Changing the business name/title

      Regards

I update a client's place last night, almost everything except for phone number, business name and address. I did not need to reverify.

I changed the Title of my business two weeks ago and didn't have to re-confirm. I believe the two things you are talking about are:
        1) Changing the phone number
        2) Changing the address.

I have done both of those for myself and clients and those are the two that cause you to re-confirm.

Same here. I changed the business name/title a few weeks ago and I did not have to re-verify the listing.

      Tommy,

As stated above, if you change the phone number, google requires a re-verification.

You can NOT re-use an old PIN; you have to request new one each time.

Phone number changes will only be re-verified by them sending a postcard. I'm located in the St. Louis, MO area and mine usually arrive within 10 calendar days.

I recently had to reverify simply taking the "Suite #" off of the second address line and putting it on the first. The business had been verified originally by phone and now by postcard. It seems that verification is by postcard ONLY now.
