Hi,

I am trying to get my first offline client. It is not proving to be as easy as some of seem to experience on your first time.

I have tried quite a bit of stuff, but i'll skip on it and include what is relevant - don't want to waste everyones time.

During this month, I have so far had 3 calls asking me if I am a dentist, because I have made a website which ranks for 'dentist in city' and it is on the top spot in organic searches. It isn't in the top in Google maps, but only in the organic and only for that keyword it is the first position. For other keywords, it may be on the first page... but not the top spot. So I believe these callers are only coming from that one search term.

Now, I know - if I make a video and get it to the top of the first page, if i get google local map listing to the top page (for businesses that are currently on page 2) and get a website on the top page of Google as well for their search terms - I am sure I would get a dentist extra leads. I mean, I am making them now for myself with only a website up and no video or google local maps... so I know it will work.

I've tried to call the listings on the second page of Google (didn't bother with the first page ones) and had one guy a bit interested but then it seems he shifted to the last spot on the first page on the Google maps and then his interest was lost. The others were generally not so interested. I could probably target further down into page 3 and some other close towns.

But, from someone who is experienced - what would you do next. Would you go calling around trying to see if anyone is interested? Or mail them something in, tell them you're going to call and then follow up with a call?

I can't go in, in person - as the place is about 2 hours drive, and plus - I would only ever want to go in if it was a scheduled meeting, I don't want to come in uninvited.

Any suggestions? I am so keen to try and sign someone up but I just don't know what to do. I know I am procrastinating a bit, but I know I can do the work...

I'm not sure you understand what some of us are suggesting.

It is simple to get your first client. But not always easy. You shouldn't just be calling the dentists on the second page of Google. Go to your phone book, put a line through the dentists that are on page one. Call every other dentist. Expect 1-2% of the dentists you call to sign up. So if you spend today calling 100 dentists you will probably make your first sale.

You actually have a great selling point for someone without a website. "What are three new patients every two weeks worth to you? That's how many calls I've gotten so far this month from my sample site."

Check some of John Durham's posts or the telemarketing forum for cold call scripts and tips if you need them.

Unfortunately not every one who knows how to make a title tag and create a backlink is cut out to be a Offline SEM Consultant. You usually need to get in front of where your likely prospects are and prove your authority. This may mean giving a presentation in your local market. Speak to the prospects core desire don't merely bore them about all you skills and abilities. You need to first sell your pitch or presentation to qualify your clients and connect what you do to what their desire is.
At the point of peak interest is when you go for the sale and re-affirm their commitment to their desire by investing in your service.
