Websites had their way Now Facebook is the way

The above title is a tagline that is used by a very successful car dealer in an extremely wealthy county.

Yes I know that Facebook has 500 million users and blah blah traffic. I know my friends and real friends that trash businesses on their walls

But somehow I really think this business has been sold a LINE about Facebook has replaced websites...

Sorry I do not agree, though every local cable TV commercial says and though they may run it for 6 months to me they will never suffer if they are wrong.

However someone sold them on this tag line which I think is totally wrong.

I have been watching their fans and likes and they are not growing by leaps and bounds.

To me the bottom line is again they will not suffer if this is a wrong strategy, and the bottom line is they are not really going away from their website. They were sold on this Facebook phenom with nonsense statistics..

Well anyway that is my 2 cents...this business will not get hurt by doing this they will only get hurt by providing real crap customer service and trust me that word will spread without Facebook

I think you should have facebook as part of your strategy however good website is also essential.

Of course it also depends on the industry.

Charities etc who are much more about relationships definitely benefit from a Facebook page.

Agreed completely. Simply said, no social networking site will ever replace a solid website. You are limited by functionality, along with several other things (I won't go into details).

With a website you not only get to sell to your customers, you can also put advertisements etc... The list goes on and on...

Facebook can be the social networking aspect of a website. For the entertainment industry (bars and clubs) Facebook can be a phenomenal resource.
