Quick question/thought (esp. for offline to fb fan pages)

This isn't really OT - so bear with me for one sec while I explain (briefly).

A friend of mine took in a puppy (8 mos old) that had been abused (our other friend rescued it, but her other dogs picked on it too - so she asked my friend to take care of him for a while, and possibly adopt him).

They thought the puppy was blind and mostly deaf, however it turns out the eyesight is perfect - but the eye dr thinks the puppy had been hit in the head enough to jar something loose between the brain to the eye and ear. My friend now has to take the puppy to a dog neurosurgeon which might mean surgery to fix the issue.

They've asked if I might be able to (or know someone who could) create a site dedicated to rescue dog/costs for medical care etc. in these type of instances. My friend doesn't have much money, so obviously this isn't something easy for her, but she wants to get the puppy as much help as possible. (And he's totally thriving with her, has been with her for about 6 weeks).

ANYWAY....

I'm going to set up a site for them, probably a blog - but I was thinking, is this something that might work for a facebook fan page? i.e, to explain it, get likes and donations?

(I haven't really done them much yet - just for lack of time).

And does facebook allow donations through it or do you have to direct people to the outside site?

Thought I'd ask - I'm going to be sending out a quick email to my own subscribers offering some mega deals to raise some funds for her in the meantime while they decide on a site name etc., but I thought that this might be a practical way of getting it noticed, especially with the power of facebook.

Thoughts?

Amber

PS - they are in the process of creating an offline organization, but obviously the connection online would be a big help.
