How is this possible?

I get a call the other day from a moving company who needs help getting listed on Google Places - No problem

The conversation continues and he mentions that one of his competitors is listed all over & comes up in just about every major city in the state. I told him this was pretty easy to achieve though the organic results, but he said that his competitor was listed within Google Places for all these cities.

This client lives outside of Boston, 14 miles away actually. He doesn't want to change his address, understandably so... How is it possible (other than having multiple addresses) to have a listing in other cities outside of the city the business is located in?

I am not sure but in google listings there is a place where it says does the customer come to you or do you go to the customer.

You choose the later and select the area. I personally like to choose it by area rather than distance.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

      Spot on Quentin:
You need to select "Yes, this business serves customers at their locations."
Then you can add a list of locations into a box below titled: "List of Areas Served"
