Mailchimp is free up to 2000 subscribers. If you use WP, here is free autoresponder plugin, WP Autoresponder - Email Newsletter And Autoresponder Plugin For WordPress

I recommend MailChimp's free service which allows you to send 12,000 emails per month to a list of 2,000 subscribers. It's very user friendly and intuitive.

I'd steer clear of "lesser known" free list services, as you could run into deliverability issues..

Thanks for the help. Im going to run an email service and was wondering if can you set up multiple accounts, or I guess you could set the account up with the customers gmail accounts when setting up their local listing.?

I just signed up for a free version of GetResponse - limited by subscribers and broadcasts, but might be enough for you to get started.

I use it also, but I was taken back when their tech support stated that GetResponse does NOT work on Androids... They better get with the times.

I prefer it to Aweber because of language issues (I want to use it in French).

I've known about Mailchimp for a while but I wrongly associated it with WP because of the plugin.

The problem with free Get Response limited service is 3rd party email subscriptions offers that comes along with each email you sent using this service. Those 3rd party email subscriptions are turned on by default even for paid Get Response service but you can turn them off in campaign settings. However you can not do the same for free version. I personally do not like promoting other services with my autoresponder

    Tony,

Being new and Leary of "all things being free" I wanted to know all about free and "open source" auto responders vs paid, at some point and time I will need to learn all about e-mail marketing, anyway, what i learned thus far is that "free" has a "cost", the "cost" is that the "free" auto responder can place ads in your e-mail campaigns ANYWHERE, which could detract from your message to your list.

My research method is basically "to yahoo or google it", I am a big fan of open source so I was looking at an "open source" auto-responder.

Obviously the paid auto-responders, like Aweber and Get Response, make there money by the monthly premiums, vs placing ads in your e-mails for people to click on.

This isn't an indepth research study but I was curious about all the hype about the "free" and "open source" auto-responders vs the paid ones.

Just my two cents Good Luck

I have a little experience with free autoresponder.biz a couple of years ago. I tried it and it seems to work. In fact I purchased the licensed version. It works as promised but I think if your list grows, and you need to send a lot of emails, you might have to be savvy enough to tweak this 'cron jobs' thing on your server/host. I have not used it for quite a time. I think using the commercial ones like mailchimp, imnicamail, etc. are more headache-free.
