What idea do you hit businesses with first?

Let's say you have a whole bag of tricks you can offer offline businesses such as bulding a website, setting up Google Places, videos, SEO, etc.

When you start cold calling, do you hit them with just one of your offerings first such as setting up their Google Places page....and then try to upsell your other services during the appointment?

If so, which is the best service to mention during your cold call to get you that appointment?

It all depends on the business doesn't it. If they haven't claimed their GP and you can see an easy #1 spot then use that. If they don't have a GP then use that.
I would say just use your research that you must do before you call and model your pitch on that.

I ask questions -- and let them tell me where they feel they need to invest their money to improve their business.

PS - There's a LOT of stuff you can do for a business "offline" that will have a much greater impact than any services you can provide them "online." More profitable ones too.

I start off with a mobile site and QR Code as virtually no one is doing this yet and it gives me a point of difference.

I own an offline business and would get 10 or so visits or calls pushing SEO, Places etc but never has anyone offered a mobile site.

BIG IDEA: Make it easy to understand by tying in what you offer with what they are already doing.

What I do is take a realtor's listing that is online and have the blurb made into a voiceover by somebody on fiverr.

Next I will have it made into a video making use of all the photos of that listing.

I will then phone the realtor and say I would , with her permission, send an email with a video on how to get more bang for her advertising dollar online.

I also phone other realtors who advertise online and offer to do the same thing.

Last week I got the most well known realtor in our country, [through TV programs he's been on], to phone me and say "YES please send me the video".

My point of this is to identify a group of businesses that you can make a big impact fast,
      b) make it easy for them to find out about your offer, and c) make it easy for them to understand by tying it in with what they are already doing.

      Best,
      Ewen

Great approach Quentin. Offering something that stands out from the crowd.

Ultimately they all want the same thing,... more customers/clients from the Internet.
As an offline specialist if you're confident that you can get them that with your skills once signed up then the objective should be on getting their attention and their confidence built up in you and building rapport so you stand out from the other guys that are all probably talking techno babble, SEO, SEM and so forth.
The mobile angle if nothing else is a great conversation opener and I can see how that would open the doors to receptivity on everything else.

And I 100% agree,... mobile solutions are the future so if you can master that area you're golden.
Well done Quentin... the best of good hunting to you
