Google places question

I have a friend with a pest control company. I was looking at helping him move up on the 10 box. Some how he claimed a listing on places that was associated with Terminix. Long story short, he has 64 citations with the wrong address and company name now.

What would you do in this situation? Change it back to Terminix and delete? Create a new listing? Will it work itself out?

Thanks

Whether you edit the existing listings or delete and create new listings, you want to make sure you have the right company name and address as soon as possible.

Make sure the information is HIS, not someone else. A lot of reasons for that, not just him losing business but also legal etc...

Fix his places listing, and you'll want to see what happens to the citations etc... If they don't update to you or still credit you, you'll need to simply start over. I'm not aware of any 'fix' for that, but don't hold me too it. Google Places and Google in general can be rather confusing at times. :p

I don't think it's going to work itself out. Change the company and address to the right one as soon as you can.. yeah not just losing customer but also legal reason and long term business name.

whether you edit the existing info or make a new listing, the time difference is probably negligible

That's how I'd rank the most important pieces of information on a Google Place Page:

        1) Phone (if it is not yours - the listing is almost useless, even if it has hundreds of back links, as most of them are built via the phone matching)

        2) Business name (this is actually a very good opportunity to "steal" an existing listing, if it has a number of back links, because of its business name, but most probably they would soon disappear, if the other pieces of information are totally different)

        3) Address

If the business name is the only piece of information that is matching, I would recommend your friend leaves this place page and starts a fresh new one. Building back links might take some time, but it will be a long-term investment, rather than the extremely short-term one if he stays with this current place page.

If the phone is the only piece of information that is matching - then keep the place page and just edit the other information. You will have to re-verify it using your phone.

        Hope I was helpful

I had him change it back from the Terminix listing. Apparently some "marketing" guy here locally told him to do it that way recently. Glad I caught it. Now we are going to have a sit down next week and hopefully I can help him out.
