Question about a Website I built

Hi,

I did a small website for a local attorney and he is asking me how we can make it profitable by maybe selling ad space to other attorneys or businesses in the area. Does anyone have any suggestions on this?

Thanks!
Michelle

If you managed to do a good seo job and got the first page position for the "keyword + name of the town" you can go for if. You can easily charge 50-70$ per month for an ad space and if you put 10 of them you just made 700$...

Turn it into a directory of sorts, ask other attorneys to register for free - then charge for prime real estate so there listing stand out.

    - Prime real estate on homepage (limit to just a few spots or just 1 - if its just 1 you could charge alot more)
    - Prime real estate on attorney list page - top of page of list of attorneys
    - Prime real estate on email newsletter - in the P.S or footer

He is fishing for pennies in a pond full of dollars. The whole point of creating the website should have been to attract new clients. Does your client understand this?

You should also have created some type of tracking process to see how many new clients are coming in via the website. Not only does this prove to them that the website works, it substantiates your abilities as marketing consultant.

Is the site currently ranking for the primary keyword? Is it ranking for any secondary keywords? Have you done a local directory campaign? What type content are they using to educate prospective clients?

If the site is not attracting new law clients, you will need to sit your client down and let them know what it's going to take to get the site in the top ten of the various search engines. Selling advertising space on a site with little to no traffic is a losing proposition.

    Hope this helps a bit.

The money he makes from one new client would far outweigh what he'd make in advertising. And why would he want people to click away from his site?

I agree with Hotlinkz on this one. Get your client to track where his new clients come from. If you want to sell advertising, sell it to businesses that aren't in direct competition to your client, but who sell services of products that may complement his service.

I don't see why he wants to promote his competition on his site, I wouldn't.

By keeping it solo he can make a name for himself and have his own clients. I have never seen any lawyer site promote another unless they are partners in different states or its a directory. It's better for him to keep building and own it all.
