Who uses a freebie to gather email addresses?

Do you use a free guide or some kind of free giveaway to get potential clients to sign up to your email address?

If so... what do you have in it and how is it working for you?

Yes I would like some feed back on this as well, so if anyone can answer this question that would be great. I have been creating a Business opp list and running PPC to landing page with an opt for a newsletter but would like to include a free product related to the this niche so any great idea would be of great help, thanks!

We have created a guide that explains the basics of SEO. We give it away for free in exchange for people's email addresses and name.

We have built a decent size list using this tactic.

At the consumer level we offer free calculators, at the b2b level we offer a free report on keys to buying the kind of software we sell. both work well in their verticals.

Yes, I use a free guide or some free tips as "list-signup-bait". The more value the freebie appears to have to the visitors, the more signups you will get.

Even better if the freebie doesn't just appear to be awesome... if it truly is awesome, it is a lot easier to sell stuff to people on the list.
