How Would You Ramp Up Bids at Local Charity Auction

I'm offering a mobile website design with one year of hosting for a local charity auction this Friday...the charity coordinator requests a "gift certificate" to display for bidding. Seems a bit boring and uninviting for bids. How would you ramp up bidding for this charity? How would you coordinate it with an online offer for passersby who don't get the bid?

What don't you try a QR code? This is certainly unique enough to "grab" attention, yet with the number of smart phones and people using QR codes, likely a number of people would be there who knew what it was. Of course, add some other words around the QR code so that those don't know what it is will know what they're bidding on.

What type of people are going to be at this event? Because if they aren't targeting business people, you might be disappointed in the amount it goes for.

Do create a gift certificate, and be sure to put an expiration date on it.

Have a spec sheet available that very clearly details what exactly is included.

If you want it to sell, I would make an "on the go" gift basket to go with the gift certificate. I've donated awesome service packages to charity auctions before and honestly, people got more excited about gift baskets where I threw a bunch of stuff together from the dollar store . . . seriously.

    People like tangible and pretty.

Get a travel mug, maybe a laptop tray, other things to tie in with it and go with Dave's suggestion of creating some QR codes for it. Put it in a basket, make it pretty and create a BIG sign with bullet points of what is included and highlight the benefits.

It is a yearly event for a local Christian charity. Lots of support throughout the community...so perhaps several business owners and companies there. I agree could go for a good price just for the sake of charity BUT not without element of "tangible"-ness. I like the idea of a gift basket...was actually considering how to add element of curiosity too.
