How Would YOU Promote My Business?

Here's my story. I am a partner/co-owner of a video production company in Pittsburgh. We are VERY SLOWLY building a clientele, but I am looking to make the next step and start scheduling jobs way in advance.

We produce virtually any type of video, but we specialize in Commercial Production, Training Video, and Web Video.

We have tried:
  • cold calling
  • email marketing
  • facebook HERE IS MY FAN PAGE
  • twitter @onesunmedia
  • asking existing clients to spread the word

I have been at this for quite some time, and we are still not getting many calls.

So my question is, what am I doing wrong, or what an I not doing? How would YOU promote my business?

Thanks!
Matt

I notice SEO is not on what you've tried. You'd be surprised how many leads you can get from just natural traffic.

Companies small and large search for people who do employment training videos, commercials, etc... all the time.

The problem is...I am completely clueless about SEO etc. I have been trying to learn as much as I can, but it is like a different language to me.

Outsource it, there are plenty of very well respected SEO experts here on the forum.

Also look at your local chamber, you have no idea how much business that can bring you.

    Hi,

    A couple of quick suggestions:

Network through Chamber of Commerce, BNI

Form some Joint Ventures with local advertising agencies that do web promotion but cannot do videos inhouse

Join LinkedIn and promote through that

Not free, but you might try Facebook advertising (don't ask me how...I am not an expert, but I hear it is better than Google Pay per click)

SEO and building backlinks is probably what you need to do.. Try a bigger image on your fan page and throw out attractive contest of lucky draw maybe FREE 2 MINS VIDEO commercial for any business every Friday.. Id probably start doing some deals to get myself out there and word to word is prob your best bet for this business.

I totally agree Will. You have got to start your SEO campaign at this minute! And conduct the local search. Find out what THEY are doing. You know that old saying, 'know your enemy..' Make the most interesting footage for your company and the service you are providing. Start calling people, social media campaign.. Throw everything you've got.

You might give radio a shot. It's done good stuff for my business. In my area just to "try" a message it's $200 for a 1 min commercial. I go down to the station record my stuff and give it a go. It's pretty easy and they do the recording and editing free for me. Then when I buy a bunch of spots the price goes WAY down per slot.

These are good tidbits. I forgot to mention, I do do Craigslist ads, frequently netowork through both sub-urban and city of Pgh. chambers, we are in the process of becoming the "video chair" at a networking group, and we are looking into adsense and FB ads

Matt - what kind of offers are you making to prospects through the many means you mentioned? You can hit someone from a dozen different angles, but if your offer fails to catch their attention and get them to call or email, finding more ways to promote a message that may not be working isn't going to help much.

Have you gotten any feedback from prospects to indicate why they aren't interested?

    Cheers,

    Steve

After looking at all the proven methods you tried without results, I went to your fb page, and watched the demo.

Afterward I thought , "What was that that I just watched? What do tattoos have to do with anything? What do these people do"? I didnt get it, and I also didnt make it any further down the page.

    Thats why its not working.

Now heres what people want to see IMHO when you say you do commercials and want to show them a demo:

If your sales pitch is anything like the video at the top of your fb page currently, then I would suggest that the problem is the message not being communicated clearly.

Just my two cents. VERY NICE CAMERA WORK though... I would just say the concept isnt clear and businessmen dont write checks when they are scratching their head.

    Edit:

Okay I read down the page some... there is some good work there. But I dont think I would have made it to the second one if I landed on your page as a regular visitor. I personally probably would have thought ??? and moved on. Unless there were other sales materials with the link telling me to look down at the examples...

When I got there, the page didnt really direct me or tell me what to do so I just thought I was supposed to click the first vid, which left me confused as to why I was sent there.

What kind of sales pitch are you using to introduce this?

Back to Question in OP... How would I sell it?

    By "selling" it.

The demos are features... you have to write some ad copy about benefits and SELLL it!!!

I mean if I was a meat salesman, selling steak door to door I couldnt just come up to you and say "Hey here's some steak" and plop it down in front of you, then just stare at you till you respond. lol

What are you supposed to say? "Okay, I agree, here's some steak". lol...

You didnt even give me a call to action.

I would say you need to SELLLLLLLLLLLL on your facebook page.

Lots of cool graphics out there but what makes or breaks a company is sales pitches and sales copy!

Many millions of dollars have been made simply by the clever turn of a small phrase.

On your FB page you arent pitching me. You arent telling me what you want me to do. You are just plopping a video with no narration or instructions or sales pitch in front of me and Im looking at it like What is this? Why am I here?

What am I supposed to do here?

    Hope this helps.

When you say "VERY SLOWLY", I'm assuming "purposeful slow growth" as opposed to "business is slow".

Hmmm... you are a video production company, yet I see no mention of blasting your productions to dozens of video sites. Given the increased importance Google places on video, you should correct this immediately.

Here's the plan in four easy steps...

    1. Create a video showing all the juicy benefits of "video marketing campaigns" for offline businesses. Of course this would apply to many online businesses as well.

    2. Blast that video out to every video media site you can find.

    3. Create a press release that provides all the facts about your hot, new video about the benefits of video marketing.

    4. Blast that press release out to all the major free and/or paid press release services. Also blast it out to all your local media resources.

    Some additional tips...

Have you created a local media resource file for your local area? This is simply a file or rolodex with all the contact information for TV stations, radio stations, newspapers, newsletters, magazines, cable networks, Chambers of Commerce, libraries, etc.

Have you announced your "grand opening"? If not, write a press release about it and blast it out.

Take the time to plan and implement tracking processes that will allow you to see where your referrals originate.

    Best of luck...

Try lumpy direct mail, everyone is doing the easy
push button emails. The thing is they are easy to
send and they are easy to delete.

Lumpy mail will get their attention and they at least
have to walk to the bin to get rid of it. Make
      interesting and stand out.

Survey your existing clients and see what their biggest
problems were before hiring you and what you have
solved and then send your targeted prospects a cd
with their name in it showing them how they will
benefit from what you have to offer and case studies
of businesses you have worked with and the results
      you got.

Make sure you target the right people you know
have a budget from the start no matter what you
      do

If it were up to me to promote your business, I would use every free online resource to gain exposure to your site. That would include:

    Twitter
    Facebook fan pages
    YouTube
    MySpace
    Zimbio
    Technorati
    Squidoo
    Hubpages
    eHow
    and many more.

Also, joining multiple forums and inserting your signature is a sure means of gaining exposure and more customers possibly for your business =)

I agree with a lot of what has been said already regarding promoting but especially SEO.

However I don't think the website works at all. I love the logo, but that's it. If I was looking for a video maker I would want to be persuaded to use you.
There is little detail about the services and that detail is too deep in the site. I think you want to hit people on the home page.

You certainly don't have enough written content to help your potential SEO efforts.

Just my 2c worth but cool and pretty don't put money in the bank.

Mike lantz gave me some advice when I got wso of the day and told me to put the most exciting stuff at the top! Its been said over and over but I think at the top you need to to give some SLAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMO! Hit me with something to get my attention and make me want to keep going.

Piss me off, make me laugh, shock me, engage me with a question... make me question myself, make me fear for my competition.... get me excited about the possibilities MOVE ME!!!! Make me FEELLL SOMETHING!

Dont just plop a vid in front of me and expect me to know what you want me to do. Talk to me, preach to me.... CONVERT ME, make me a believer!!!!!

Also, GUIDE the visitors from thought to thought with your copy. Dont make them ecstrapulate on their own devices.... be their guide.

One overhwlming feeling I had upon landing at the HP was "I dont understand what Im supposed to be doing here or looking for, and its not telling me...". Its like telling someone a joke with no punchline and they are left wondering what they are supposed to say.

On a positive note, you clearly have talent and a valuable service to offer, if you can just perfect "offering" it!

Ps. I think every biz thinks videos are cool and prestigious to have, but they dont understand the actual benefits or how they can be used to impact the bottom line.... so some pointing out some benefits... IN TEXT FORM, could help.

I went to my first BNI two weeks ago from a post here in the Warrior Forum. I see HUGE value in becoming a member.

You are allowed to go to 2 meetings free and then your have to sign up ($465/yr) which one referral and you have your dues paid. You do have to have a biz license to sign up, at least In Vegas you do.

I received an email from a dentist in the group and she wants to meet Friday to go over her options. She has a site with a ton of flash and she realized flash isn't good for SEO so I am thinking a re-design, Google Places and a mobile site with SMS messaging. She already has a FB page and she's not crazy about it, but I am going to recommend how to run it effectively.

I have only been to 2 meetings, but I do see a lot of potential and I would recommend it to anyone here.

    Matt,

It looks to me that you are fishing in the wrong market...What used to work yesterday is not working today and what will work today will not work in near future...

the secret is to test test test...

Do you have a brand name presence in your potential marketplace?
Do you have the basics figured out as to what your client is worth to you in first sale and in lifetime value. what do you spend on acquring a new lcient?
What are doing with your existing clients list?
There is tons of things that can be done and you will never know which wil work unless you test.

    For what its worth
