I started standing up at networking meetings and explaining how SEO can benefit a company. All good, got a few people interested but they were just wanting me to critique their website. Fair enough.
So, we began to run seminars and I structured them like this:
1) Ask for a bunch of companies to tell me what they did
2) Asked for their web addressess
3) Did some live keyword checking to find out some related keywords
4) Found out how many people searched (x)
--The killer--
5) Asked them how much they made on average per job (y)
6) Multiplied (x) by (y) then by 6% (low conversion rate) = How much money they could make if they got of their ass and did some SEO.
It's amazing the effect this has when written on a whiteboard. Got sign-ups to our membership plan and also a bunch of SEO clients there and then - there were only 18 in the room.
