Is "color" the next huge thing in social media?

So I just caught this press release about "color" which is a new media (photo) sharing app. It basically opens your photo albums to everyone within 150 feet from your phone. It's suppose to be able to connect with everything else like twitter and facebook. So I downloaded the thing and was looking at it and realized - "hey this thing will show bar-codes and QR codes."

Really curios if anyone has any thoughts on how you could monetize this for clients or explain to them how it is another facet that will connect them to their web site etc.

Any thoughts?

Yeah there are press releases all over the place today on it. I mean we all know that a CNN story on this is largely driven as a PR thing; but it is being pushed out HARD. They mentioned that the founding creator was given 41 million to help on venture capital. People are already writing in to the media channels about it. Someone made the immediate observation that if you sign up for this and go to the mall, your phone will fill up with pictures of their ads. I don't doubt it, I would do that in a heart beat. Especially if I know I can pull in an extra 10% for a hyper split second offer promoted on this.

For retail, I can see them turning it into an Easter egg hunt for cool deals only associated with the images on color. For B2B or corporate services, I still am not really clear on what you could offer, but it is nonetheless going to be yet another channel for output and input.

I came up with this idea and submitted it to SFund last month. Hmmm...

Yeah I submitted an idea to Google around 2001 about a search engine that would be based on doodles. You know, draw the eiffel tower and it identifies it for you and brings up searches. So many years later Goggles come out. Get an NDA and move on!
