Locksmith on Google Places? Rejected!

Hi guys,

My listing keeps going back to pending review, I've tried a lot of things to get it to stick... and one time I actually did. But then my dumbass went back in to add a picture.. and it won't stick now.

Sooo.. if I were to blast this business listing to all the other local directories, do you think Google will pick it up soon? If so, how long would that take?

How can I accelerate the process?

Locksmiths are not "banned" from Google, it's just very, very difficult. You have to go at it backwards. You have to build up your citation sites first. Many legitimate companies will already be ready to go, they'll have a yellowpages.com citation, and will be listed in many respected directories. You build it up by making the citations your first priority. And then once your citations are in place you setup your Google Places listing.

Don't do any reviews or anything silly like that(at least on Google). If you can get some reviews on places like InsiderPages or Kudzu, that will be ok and could help.

Make sure in the footer or sidebar of your client's website the exact match to the Google Places listing is mirrored on every page. Also it wouldn't hurt to link to your review/citation sites on the sidebar if possible. For instance for my locksmith client we have icons on the right sidebar for InsiderPages, Yelp and Kudzu. I would have the client pay for the Yahoo Directory listing at $299/yr.

With sites like these you have to do absolutely everything you can do to convince Google that you are legitimate. The more legitimate you appear, the better.

Do Organic SEO to the main site, and build links to all your citations.

Its not the easiest niche to go into, but in time it can work.

Thank you so much for your advice.

How recently have you been able to get a locksmith place page to stick? I also was wondering after building, optimizing, and backlinking all the citations do you actually add the address into google to see if they will accept the listing?

For locksmiths you need to focus on as many business directoires as you can then let GP pick up your listing

rbrshorty, are you sure about this? Sure sounds worrying if it is a fact.
Are there any other forbidden words? Is there a list somewhere that you can provide us with? Thanks.

I see many google place listings with locksmith in the catagory, I presume the problems arise if the google place listing is ever claimed or updated, and the algo picks up locksmith.

I updated a friend's plumbing google place listing and for 6 months could not get out of "pending review", it was reviewed three times, and on two occassions passed the review process, and yet remained 'pending review'

I felt very wary about offering google place optimisation services after that experience.

Locksmiths is targeted for scrutiny by google. Make sure you follow their guidelines exactly. You can only use the term in the name only if its in their legitimate business name.

keyword stuffing is no longer allowed and the citation should match the listing exactly. Make sure to follow the guidelines for the catagorys and other sections as well.

Once you get the places listing accepted you can go to work on the off page seo ofr the web site, as well as reviews and citations. Make sure your citation is copied into each footer on each page of your web site as well.

See the prior post about building your citations 1st.
Go to the google places forum and do some research there. Post questions as well.

Can I ask what is the buzz with Locksmiths? I understand that it's not banned, but what is causing all these Places optimizers to want Locksmith listings? I would imagine air conditioning to be more popular, but locksmiths?

The same companies have many websites under different names. Google is trying to have verified addresses and businesses. Many customers have been scammed by these Locksmiths which give honest locksmiths a bad reputation.

Google is working with some locksmith oversight organization company's to work to remove all Scammer locksmiths from google places and they have removed thousands of non real non licensed locksmiths from google places listings and will be removing a lot more over time and keeping a eye on it.

A Scammer locksmith is a company that uses many phone numbers for many towns that they have no legal right to work in ( no license ) and they use fake address for each town that they have no business at for the google places listings. They take in calls and send out who ever to do a job and rip people off. They drive un-marked cars with no business name on them and have no license to be in business as they work under many fake business names using hundreds of websites and phone numbers.

In many states you must pass a state test and be certified and have a background check done to be a Locksmith and all others you must have a Business license in the towns you work in and a real address not a lot of fake ones and hundreds of phone numbers that go to fake business names.

Would you want a criminal showing up to unlock your front door. In many cases that is what you get with the fake locksmiths.

What they also do is advertise a low price on their websites and phone book ads like fast 15 min service at $29 for lockouts but then when they get to you a hour later they come up with some nonsence about how your car or home is harder to work on and it will now cost $125 to $150 or more and most people at this point after waiting will end up paying for it and get ripped off being put on the spot.

A real locksmith will give you a real price and stick to it and have a real address and most will show up in a car or van that has their business lettering on it so you know they are for real. In many states their state license number has to be listed on the work truck and on the website and in any print ads.

You should always ask for a firm set price and ask what town they have a business license in and under what name and will they provide you business cards with that on it and who will be coming out and what will they be driving.

So google is kicking out all the google places page Scammer locksmiths that have no right to be their in the first place.
They rip off customers and over charge them and are no licensed to even be working.
It has been taking a lot of money away from real locksmiths that do not not rip people off.

Many phone book company's are now having law suites made at them for selling ads to non licenced scammer locksmiths in town areas and listing fake address in the ads the locksmith do not work out of.

If you are a real locksmith with a real address and busness licence and belong to some of the locksmith organizations then you should not have a problem with your listing just contact your locksmith organization rep to help you out.
If you are not a real licensed locksmith then expect your website to drop and be removed from google.

I have a locksmith client in spot B on Google Places right now. The company in the A spot is a scam company that somehow changes their address every other day on Places. No idea how they're doing it and staying in the same spot.

    Only joking,

On a more serious note, if its Google maps you have to wait around 3 weeks to receive something through the post before you see the listing
