I'm a Little Bit Out of My Comfort Zone On This

Hello all.

As many of you know from my previous posts, I am a videographer, and I am on here to try to use the web to gain more clients. In the process of trying to land new video clients (particularly web video clients) we stumbled across a company that wants us to build them a website. While we do not advertise that we can build sites, that is in our repertiore. My question is...

What is the typical charges involved in building a site for a company, and along with that, what are typical monthly upkeep charges? I do not know what this company's SEO budget is.

If more info is needed, please let me know and I will try to clarify.

Thank you!

Matt

Pricing really depends on what you are offering and your skill set and reputation.

As for monthly fees, it really depends on what they need. Do they need someone to update their site, or do they want to do it themselves and just call on you for more technical stuff? Are they ready to be aggressive and have SEO promotion?

If your forte is video, it might make more sense to partner with another company that has experience in development and SEO.

I've always stayed away from video, because quite frankly, it stresses me out. There were a few video companies that contacted me over the years and wanted to partner, but I wasn't all that impressed with what they did and didn't feel comfortable recommending them.

But I recently came in contact with someone with amazing experience and skills in video production in my area. She has 15 years of experience as a producer. She's produced and directed her own show on public access television for the past four years and has her own studio 15 minutes away from me. She's awesome.

We've started to partner and I do the web development, online strategic planning, writing and SEO and she does the video production and promotion. We put together some great packages.

It can be a little challenging finding the right person for a strategic partnership, but when you do, I think it is better than trying to do something you don't have expertise in.

What is the typical charges involved in building a site for a company? - That will depend on what sort of quality you want. You can outsource it for around $250-650 and get a very decent site.

What are typical monthly upkeep charges? - These would just be costs for hosting and if they had SEO then you could offer them a monthly SEO maintenance plan to keep the rankings where they are

I do not know what this company's SEO budget is - Build them a site then offer them SEO at a later point or when you have sealed the deal

    Good luck

      Hi Matt,

your challenges are going to be clients not being clear on what they want and not giving you content, but wanting it yesterday..

It can be a huge time suck for you if you don't frame it up right from the start.

I would outsouce it to someone with experience (not elance, odesk etc) in your case and add 20% on top, this is the easiest solution.

I have might have contacts for you if want PM me

    Matt,

Hit me up on a PM or email me through my sig link if you're interested in a barter deal. I do quite a few websites and I happen to need a video editor for an ongoing project.

Let me know if you're interested.
