YourAreaCode.com everywhere in my area

I've been doing some SMS research of local restaurants and a lot of them are using yourareacode.com as their SMS provider.

I went to their site and it looks like it mixes social networking, local directories and SMS services all mixed into one. Kind of confusing, actualy.

Basically, I (as a customer) would visit YAC and see a bunch of businesses. I can then choose one and send an SMS to get a coupon.

It also looks like most of the businesses registerd have to do everything themselves as far as entiering their SMS promotions, updating facebook, etc.

I emailed them to get some pricing because I couldn't see it on their site. But I'm hoping that it's rediculously expensive and not effective for local restaurants.

My plan is to offer a full service package which inludes me (and eventually my staff) to handle all of the online promotions so the restuarant owner simply has to pay me a check and know that everything is getting done for them.

Has anyone else had experience with yourareacode.com?

Mike

Never heard of them until today.

They only have 5 business signed up and they are to even in my area.

The real money is made in managing the accounts verus just signing them up for the service.

Well, they have 4198 businesses signed up in my area in different categories (bars, restaurants, entertainment, spas, etc.)

That's 4198 businesses I can call on and offer an even more robust "full service" solution.

      Or....

That's 4198 businesses that aren't getting results they want and think that SMS is a waste of money and time.....which could also be a good thing for me

      Or.....

That's 4198 businesses that are completely satisfied with them which would be a real bummer for me.

          lol. Good point.

I actually do have an appointment with a local pizza/restarurant owner on Friday to talk about SMS, mobile web, their website, and email marketing.

          Also..

I did get a reply from YourAreaCode.com about the pricing. Here it is.

          "
          Hi again Mike!

We do not have a specific price list and our product can only be seen via a live demonstration. I would be happy to either do that in person or by webinar. Please contact me at your convenience and we will arrange either one.

          Thanks,
          Angela"

So in order to see exactly how they work and their pricing, I have to meet them or go through a webinar. I think I'll just speak to local business owners myself and see if they'll tell me what they pay.

I have not heard of them.

I would suggest going backwards and forwards.

In other words, I would offer more old school services

    JS & M Sales & Marketing Inc.

I intend to utilize the pattern here. IMHO sometimes it is quite fruitless to give a business a bunch of traffic, if they are not converting the traffic they are getting now, even if it is only a little.

Also, services should probably include the USP of the business which is typically more effective than their website tagline. Without a statement or sense for why people are buying from them, you may be spreading out the pain among more prospects for that business.

Those are the kind of things that you will never encounter amongst the yourareacodes of the world.

I never heard of them until today, looks to be over 2000 places in my area code. I don't see a single reference in the 20+ places I checked that show anything about SMS or coupons. All of them were just mostly empty directory listings. Are you sure those 4K+ businesses are really doing anything with YAC.com or just pulled from some other directory and populated in theirs?
