Hi Warriors,

I've got a site that's on page 2 of Google at the moment for a specific niche & and I'm hoping to have it on page 1 within the next month or so, once it's' there I'd like to rent out add space to a number of businesses, rather than renting the site to a sole business but I need some advice.

So I've had a look around the forum but can't really locate anything that covers renting ad space to multiple businesses.

I'm endeavouring on having say 10 or so business (those with sites that are beyond page 1) advertising on the site, maybe 1 or 2 featured that would pay more and also receive leads from the site in return too.

Does anyone do this? Looking for advice on how to best position this to prospective clients (and any ideas on pricing model would be great too) and whether this is a viable route to go down.

Many Thanks

    Hey there,

To be honest, if you are NOT in a fairly larger city...I would just target ONE business and offer exclusivity. With what you are describing, I feel like you could tweak it a bit and have more success just offering a directory (perhaps just use your overall idea for a geo/niche specific dedicated directory -- "smithville attorneys" etc. A lot of business niches just don't get a lot of organic/ppc traffic...PERIOD.)

If you are in a smaller geographic area, this becomes a larger problem. Now, factor in that you would be displaying SEVERAL service providers on your page...you just gotta be sure the businesses are going to actually benefit, and you gotta be sure that you can explain EASILY how they will benefit....with 10 providers advertising on your site and a small trickle of traffic coming monthly...is this possible to do? It certainly could be, just something to consider...

If you want to test the keywords/traffic you can always run an adwords campaign for a week.

Essentially, I feel that you (or anyone looking to do something similar) have two basic options here.

    1. Try and get every targeted business in town signed up to advertise on your site at a VERY low rate (more directory style, less "sales" work on your end, BUT probably less VALUE to the clients listed...not always the case though if they're only paying you $xx a month, maybe only one extra client a year puts them into profit, plus if the price is low enough it really just can become a complete "no brainer" regardless of results..etc)

    or

    2. Get ONE targeted business signed up on your site and offer them exclusivity at $xxx a month. (more sales work on your end, but probably a lot more value to your clients AND IMO a more viable longterm strategy with better ROI)

The SEO work involved is essentially the same for both options, so which option would be more feasible for you and which one will produce the best ROI? (factoring in your time and money spent, etc)

I read a post about 1 year ago that talked up doing this approach and I got hooked into it myself. Got the site on the first page for dentists and had a real tough time renting it out. It was alot of work do get it all up and I honestly havent found anyone that truly was making money with this approach. The guy promoting this method was putting all his affiliate links for the programs and tools he recommended to use. Thats how he was making money. I really doubt he was really using this method to any success. Because after he posted a few posts he disappeared and never really shared any examples or sites he created.

Now I am not saying this method will never work. I am just saying it is a tough sell.

What I do now instead is, I rent out a 1 page wordpress landing page. I rent them out for about $200-$400 per month and even started offering a prepay option. But I set it all up on paypal auto bill (subscription). This is working like magic and I have over $2,000 a month coming in. The best part is it only takes me about 2-4 hours to set one up, and only about 10-40 minutes a month to maintain all of them!

Also if a client stops paying, I can switch another client in just 2 minutes. Because I use a virtual number and can change that in seconds.

I experienced the same thing, also about a year ago. I have to laugh, I wonder if I was following the same guy's advice? :-)

In my case, it seemed completely logical at the time. I set up nice directory, for a certain type of business, got it ranked, and tried to sell ad space on it. Sold a few, for way too much effort.
Maybe it was the niche, maybe I approached it wrong. Maybe wrong pricing, who knows? but I just could not make that model work.

Dr Dan can you clarify the difference between the first model that failed and the second model that worked? Was the first model a directory with many listings/advertisers?

PS When is your WSO coming out? Been keeping any eye out for it all week!

I believe Dan had success by renting out the site to one business owner instead of multiple owners!
