Advertising Funeral Services

I am just looking through my local paper at the advertisements, and looking at the funeral services, and am wondering how to advertise them... other than SEO and google places. Not sure it would work well on facebook !

Seriously, funeral services are very competitive and are well funded, Google places is a great place to start so is PPC if its targeted tightly to their Geo location.
Facebook does work well if you set up some kind of remembrance theme where all of the family of the bereaved can post pictures and comments about their loved ones.

I would offer a service where you hire college kids to hand out flyers around town to the elderly and people that look like they only have a few days or months to live. lol.. sorry I couldn't resist.

You could offer video marketing, classified ad marketing, etc.

At least the funeral services are not seeing a drop in customers during the financial downturn, people are still dying for their services

Very true. Unfortunately they are seeing a rise from all the people dying from stress and suicides of losing jobs, losing homes, and divorces.

Social media supports your SEO activities.

And done the right way (engaging with your future customers) you will be top of mind when the inevitable happens.

I also encouraged one of my funeral home clients to join a golf club and get to know everyone.

Who is there when a death occurs?
Where and whom do they go to?
            Who are their trusted advisors?

What educational materials and buyers guides can you put into their hands.
What about the small niche markets that are not being met?
Ethnic and other growing religios groups....
With the ever growing cost of funeral service more and more peaple are moving over th cremation.

In my family we had a cousin lost both her father and mother with in six months due to completely hidden and sudden health factors. She had to collect money from family twice to cover the cost and financial burden. They were both in their fifty's when they passed away

They have not seen a drop in customers but they have seen a huge drop in revenue.

I have a bunch of funeral home owner clients and they have been hit hard by the downturn. Yes people are still dying but the family isn't going to spend $7K on a funeral (average price in the US). The number of deaths per funeral home has not gone down but the revenue per death has gone down a lot.

For advertising purposes we use a lot of PPC, Google Places, video marketing and SEO to make sure that we dominate page one of Google. We also do a lot of relationship marketing with local clergy and hospice workers.

As soon as I saw the headline on this thread, I thought, "I wonder how many word plays I'll see when I open this?"...lol

The challenge in marketing funeral services lies in the fact that people think about the service only when the need arises. The need is only triggered by the major life event called death (lol).

I am not sure that Facebook is age friendly for your target audience. My sister has been planning her 50th Class reunion and most of her group hardly ever uses Facebook.

You may want to have partnerships with rehab centers, florists, home hospice and medical equipment stores. The local buffet attracts a huge crowd of elderly.

This is a tough one because you don't want to look like the funeral home is hanging around waiting for you to die. But keeping the companies logo and name in front of everybody is important.

One of our local funeral homes has some unique hursts they keep in the public eye. They even have a horse drawn hurst. It makes them unique. What is unique about the funeral home.

What are you advertising? Make preplanned arrangements, would be marketing to elderly, but marketing products would be go to the funeral homes. This is such a huge market but cremation is big now and there are so many things out there. But yet it is a tight market.
    Best of luck
