Are Vanity Numbers Good for Business?

Vanity numbers are generally associated with the big brand name companies, but they are available to anyone who wants them. Companies like AT&T, Verizon, and Yellowbook use them daily, whether it be in their marketing campaigns or for day to day customer operations.

Anyway, I was thinking about something. Everyone is always talking about branding your business, and making a name for yourself. Well, has anyone considered a vanity number for their marketing consultancy? I think it's a smart strategy that would help to make your company stand out amongst the competition. It's also easier to remember the words of a phone number than it is to remember 10 single digits.

What do you think of having a local and toll free vanity number?

I thought about it and will probably do it in the future, but it's not really a big deal because I don't think that a prospective client is really trying to remember the words of your business #..or the phone # for that matter, they see the offer, if they like it..they look at the # and call, I don't think a vanity number makes a difference as far as B2B goes, they're more for consumers, but again I will use it...but for personal reasons (I think it looks *cute* lol)

      Ginesa,

You said it right with vanity.

It's just an ego trip in showing off.

Chet Holmes didn't do that ego stuff when he doubled multi Billionaire
Charlie Munger's nine companies sales...most within 1 year.

      Best,
      Ewen

I'd probably agree with Deidra, as I don't think it's going to make any noticeable difference with B2B...consumer market is a different story.

Well, it isn't necessary, but don't render it useless because for the right business, this could be huge.

I think using vanity numbers helps the number stick in your head. 867-5309...I rest my case.

If your client base is "local", I think they're great "if" you're using a local area code.

I think businesses would prefer dealing with someone local and a strange...or 800...area code takes the local out of your number.

I think it depends on the phone number. Some numbers are just as easy to remember as words, and sometimes even easier. Examples like 782-1100 or 565-6556 are easy for me to remember because of the double numbers.

It is also easier to type numbers rather than words on the keypad, at least for people in my generation. Younger people who are used to texting may know that N=6 or R=7, but I have to look.

I use Google Voice for my business number and they let you choose vanity numbers for free. I wouldn't pay for this...
