SMS Marketing - How to get the client's customers to sign up?

What are some of the ways that you've all used to promote the keyword/sms service to the client's customers to sign up for it?

All I can think of is:
  • Facebook/Twitter
  • Table Tents
  • Posters
  • At a club/bar - DJ announcing it
I know some people have said that they don't use table tents/posters at all, well how the heck do you get the people to sign up?

Table tents are our PRIMARY vehicle for sign ups. They work very, very well. Not sure why anyone wouldn't want to use them...

If somebody says they don't use table tents to get opt ins for SMS marketing, then they aren't really doing it. It depends on their budget, but radio spots, print ads, etc.

If you're not using table tents, you're not doing it right. The only way I see table tents as not really a viable option is if it's a takeout place or delivery place with no dine in eating, such as a pizza joint. However, at least one or two table tents are still a good idea to put on the counter so they see it when they come and pick up their pizza!

    EDIT:

Just to add, my main two methods are table tents and flyers/posters. However, odds are they are already using some sort of promotional material, such as print, radio, tv, etc. It is a good idea to have them integrate the sms marketing into their current marketing strategies. This will also help a ton.

I can't speak for iamnameless, but I usually buy those plastic 5x6 standing plastic frames in bulk. You can get them for a little over $1 a piece. Then I have my graphics artist create a something to put in the 5x6 frame and print two per sheet of paper at the local printing place.

Displays Direct Counter Top Ad Frames Your Direct Source for Displays

go there to have an idea of what I use to put on tables. I usually sell the table tents with the ad for about $4-5 a piece.

Table tents and stick-ons for the pizza boxes are the best two methods for pizza joints. We print the stick-ons three-up and have them cut. Then we supply the pizza place the stack of stick-ons and a glue stick and their staff runs a line of glue on the back of each one and pastes it on the top of every pizza box.

    Hard to miss.

Also, we supply enough table tents (glossy, 8.5 x 11 card stock that folds in half at the top) for each business at no per item cost, it is part of the initial set up fee.

I may post a sample of one of our table tents here for you guys to see what they generally look like.

The going rate depends... I suggest trying to work out a deal with your local printing company if you have enough clients. You might be able to get 100 for $50 or so. If they aren't willing to work with you, find someone who is. There are many national printing companies that can offer low prices.

I kind of didn't want to put this out there since you don't know who is reading this forum, but I guess I'll share...

As of April, I'm now getting all of my printing at dead cost. My brother has joined our company and he has a long background in the print business. He's brought us up with our own high-end commercial printing equipment so now we don't pay anyone else to print for us, we do it ourselves... but for most businesses that's not a viable path due to the enormous cost involved in acquiring the equipment and the training necessary to operate it efficiently.

I will tell you this, however -- the cost savings is ENORMOUS.

Anyone have an example of a table tent that they use? Do they have to be done in 4 color and graphically appealing, or would simple text do?

I'm going to share with you one of our table tents. Bear in mind, this is pre-production (it still has a comp image from iStockphoto on it, and we also made some changes to the verbiage on the tent to make the offer sound more appealing) but I feel okay sharing this one with the forum.

Please use this as inspiration, don't just steal it outright, people. I've paid my staff to create this design...

If it's a business with a cash register, the person ringing up the sale could mention the sms campaign or hand them a card to fill up for a small discount or coupon on their next purchase.

If businesses are signing people to their email lists, they can add the mobile phone field to their opt in form (once again giving a gift or incentive to do so).

I heard Adam H from Mobile Monopoly mention the table tent idea in his sales video but have not seen anything like that in my area restaurants.

Tabletops, posters, fliers, social media, radio/tv ads (if budget permits), and the most successful by far for Trumpia clients has been to simply train the business's staff to push their mobile marketing campaign.

As a cashier, waitress, any member of the staff that interacts directly with the customer, it is important to emphasize the benefits to joining the mobile club. For example, if a consumer is already about to pay full price for a product but is given the opportunity to receive 30% off by joining the mobile club, you're going to have a high percentage of consumer's joining for that discount because it's ultimately win-win on both sides, consumer gets the discount and as a business you get their number. But again this will only work if the employee emphasizes the mobile marketing campaign.

Here's a few examples of how some of clients at Trumpia are pushing their mobile marketing campaign.

Thanks SCK and TrumpiaTim for posting those examples. They are certainly eye-catching and professional looking. Can either of you recommend a graphic design resource for designing table tents like that?

      BJ:

I have a print designer on my team, that's not something that I source elsewhere. Sorry, I don't really have a recommendation. However, you could check oDesk as one option, and 99Designs as another. 99Designs will cost you more, but the variety of designs you will get makes it worth it -- you can pick and choose the very best design from dozens of submissions.

I will give a great deal on table tents to any warrior who wants to utilize them.

In addition, here is a method I've been getting clients to implement. Put the referral deal right in the text message itself:

Such as - bring a friend and get (bigger % off)
When they show the phone code at the cashier, they ask the friend if they would like the deal too and add their phone number for more deals.
