Here in Holland nobody even knows what QR codes are, i tried to explaine it to some local bar owners and all i hear is... what is the point? I try to explaine it to them but thay all say " nahh not for me mate..."

Guess its not going to be a hit here as it is over in the US and Japan.

Its not just Holland. Even in the US it is relatively unknown for the great majority. Japan? Yea maybe.

Will it be popular? probably, I may add it down the road but it isn't something I would spend much time on.

Text messaging? Now thats more mainstream, but mostly the under 45 crowd. And yes I am in the over 45 age bracket and love text messaging....but thats just me. Do I use QR's? Very little...and I think that applies to most everyone.

Another year or 2 and we will see.

google dropping QRs from google places has and will have minimal impact on the growth of qr code marketing, their logistics just didn't support it for starters and it was probably costing too much to deploy and was limiting the development of GP, ie any changes to the URL they make would make all their posters and stickers useless

If they where truly dropping qr codes they would also drop their api support for generating QRs and remove the feature from their URL shortening service too

I think more than anything you have a reporter jumping to conclusions and being over dramatic with their headlines in order to get more web traffic...

Agreed! We are having great success with it here in the eastern US. Businesses are eating it up!

Quentin, thanks for posting this report!

QR Codes are still rising in popularity here on the West Coast. In my specific area in SoCal they are getting VERY popular and I'm noticing a lot of the businesses that I frequent are using them for a variety of purposes. MUCH more so than the last 6 months it seems. I still don't expect much of the midwest and more rural areas to pick up on mobile marketing for another year or so.
