Im shocked this happened!

Ok a bit of background. I just recently started in the offline social marketing arena and so far am loving it. I specialize in social and sms marketing. Things are going good. Today I get a call from one of my prospective clients in the "entertainment" arena and I meet with him, lay out all the plus sides and we conclude with an appointment for a second meeting. Well around lunch time I get a call from the same guy and he wanted to know what it would cost to be a "dedicated" client, meaning he wants to be the only client in that niche. Well originally I quoted him a $1500 setup fee and $550 a month for just the social and sms marketing. I dont believe this is low, but what I am wondering is...What should it be if he wants to be the only client in that niche? fyi it is a local bar/club with a huge door turnover, if that helps. Would $3000 setup and $2500 - $3500 monthly be a huge turnoff? Any opinions would be appreciated.

All my clients get area exclusivity...I'd be surprised if people had one business as a marketing client...and then went and worked with their direct competition right after...seems like a conflict of interest. (assuming they are within the same client-servicing area)

In terms of your above prices, charging $3,500 per month is fine -- as long as you can JUSTIFY that in terms of ROI for the client.

What would it cost them if you went and worked with their competition (instead of them being exclusive)

How much business sales will results from your monthly fee

How much work would be required to locate someone who could provide the same results you do etc.

I agree with Dex on this one. All the clients I work with I have a no compete clause in the contract for their city/county.

I would base what your charging with the formula that DEX is recommending.

I also never take on more than one client in the same niche/industry in a local market.

Like Dex said, the price doesn't really matter if the customer is getting a good ROI.

Like Coke and Pepsi, I have no problem with accepting clients in the same functional business area in the same geographic region.
