Ideas for a Physical Video Game Store

Hey everyone,

I need some help! I have a friend that owns a physical video game store. He is in a small town with few searches and although I`m confident I can get him first place rankings for the keywords I found, I don`t think it will be life changing cause they`re low traffic words.

I`m looking for some ideas on how to help. I will be doing this free of charge cause he`s a good friend and I`m wondering what you guys think can help. Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Peter

    Hi Peter

His keywords may not have much traffic when you compare to a net-wide niche, but most of them should be buying keywords.

You should be able to get a small town local biz to #1 quickly, first grab the .com - such as springfielddentist.com or castlerockdivorcelawyer.com or whatever is applicable

Thanks for the input. The thing is I`m pretty well versed in SEO and work with several local satisfied clients in my local area who all have first page results so I`m confident that I`ll get him there even with his own company name domain. I just don`t think that first page rankings in his case will give him the results he`s looking for cause of the relatively low keyword traffic based on my research and experience.

I was hoping to get some suggestions and recommendations from a creative aspect that would get people coming to his store. I did some research yesterday and was thinking maybe an SMS campaign where he can gather phone numbers and text his client base anytime a new game arrives in or if he has any specials.

      Any other ideas are appreciated.

      Regards,

      Peter

If it's a small town and not many people are searching for a game store in that particular area, I'd say his best option to expand his business is to also have an online store. You could not only provide him with that, but also Internet marketing services that will get visitors to that online store.

In my opinion, all brick 'n mortar stores that aren't selling online are simply missing out.

I agree with Casper. Get him online. Start with Ebay until he gets his own physical presence.

It's still going to be difficult to compete with the Amazons, Best Buys, and Walmarts of the world but at least he'd have a fighting chance.

He might also want to look into developing some type of information product for a popular game or a game that has a strong following.

I know of a guy who developed Madden guides and did well with it.

Unless they have something unique forget eBay. That's the fast track to the bottom, especially for something like video games where there are thousands of vendors selling, used, counterfeit, illegal copies and other crap. For video games it's just way too competitive online.

Is this small town near a larger one? If so then branch out your SEO efforts there. An SMS campaign might work with finding ways to get ads out to text videogames to 12345 and then getting outbound marketing efforts going.

I'm not sure what keywords you utilized or what tool you used for your research, but try Google trends, analytics, or insight.

Newsletter/Prelaunch list would surely be a good option in this niche?

Email or SMS both good options

If you are in a small town, then you may want to focus in on the towns that are around as well. This may help with getting you the business that you are looking for. As for setting up an online store, you may have good results with that, but if you are running a store like a game stop or anything along those lines, then you are going to need to make sure that you are getting the trades in as well so that you can keep the products flowing. I would target the towns around and go from there. Good Luck.

    1. Get a digital camera
    2. Make a Youtube video reviewing every game
--NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE GAMES EVEN IF THEY SUCK, MAKE EVERYTHING FUN!!
--AT LEAST TWO PEOPLE IN THE VIDEOS TALKING TO EACH OTHER ABOUT THE COOLNESS!!!
    --SEMI-PROFESSIONAL!!!

    3. Link all of the videos to your blog/website with short text descriptions
    4. SMS/Tweet and Email the links to each video in a drip campaign

    Non-IM ideas:

    5. Video game tournament with a $100 prize (1st Person shooter or fighting game)
    6. Pizza and video game party (girls show up to these also!)
    7. Advertise at colleges, schools, and libraries

I could keep going but you get the idea by now. Good luck!

I would recommend incorporating a mobile marketing campaign combined with email marketing which Trumpia does provide.

Also, I would set up interactive tournaments and game releases to draw customers in.
