First off you need money to do this properly.

    $500 minimum prefer $1,000.

Get a good list don't be cheap on this.

Start collecting ads that are being sent to you and keep the good ones and learn from them and apply to your ad.

Plan on around $800-1000 for this.... maybe more if you want someone to copy addresses out of the yellow pages. Locally, it works wonders... I imagine it would on a larger scale too.

Mine think post card marketing is not difficult .If you have some techniques to do this marketing than you can earn huge money .I suggest you to follow some tips .
    1. To keep yourself on track through all of the steps to follow, create an overall postcard marketing plan. After reading this article, you'll know exactly what to put into it.

    2. To save yourself time, headache and hassle, turn the logistics over to a professional postcard printer.

    3. To find the company that's best for you, create a list of postcard service providers and begin comparing them on the points that are most important to you (cost, services, easy of use, etc.).

    4. Begin thinking about the various elements of postcard marketing and who will handle them (the copywriting, the design, etc.).

    5. Track down some colleagues who have used postcard marketing in the past. Buy them a cup of coffee and pick their brain about lessons learned, vendor recommendations, etc.

    6. Start reading up on direct mail marketing in general, and postcard marketing in particular.

    7. Create a postcard marketing budget that allows for multiple mailings.
    8. Make it your goal to make people say, “Gosh, I'm glad I got this postcard.”

    9. Don't rely on yourself to come up with a big idea. Get your top “thinkers” together.

It's hard to give you a good tip without knowing what your promoting and who's buying. The one size fits all strategies are the ones that get 1-2% response.

I'm assuming you want better than that.

    Need details.

    Sup Mike,

...depends on the kind of postcard marketing you want
    to do.

Do you want to sell PRODUCTS or SERVICES? Because,
the strategy VARIES between the two.

My focus is PRODUCTS. It's Duplicatable. Easier to scale.

Here's a few tips I've learned through experience and my
    mentors:

    1. I'm living PROOF success ins't only WHAT you know...
but WHO you know. It can mean the difference between
struggling needlessly and talking to 1 or 2 seasoned vets
in the industry who, 9 times out of 10, are HAPPY to talk
to YOU about what works and what doesn't.

The RIGHT information is CRITICAL - otherwise you spend
thousands before you figure it out yourself.

    2. It's all about the NUMBERS - It doesn't matter if you're
white, black, asian, mexican, blue, green, or yellow -

it's the "numbers" that make you money IF done right.

    3. Contrary to what MOST will tell you, you can do a good
test on 500. Anything LOWER and you're playing with fire.

It's cheaper. Around $270. BUT...if you can raise at LEAST
    $550 for a 1000 postcard test it's recommended - the 500
postcards is for those on a smaller budget.

I've done 500 postcard tests and saved money without a
significant drop in response. Again, the numbers are still in
    play here.

    4. I learned the very painful and EXPENSIVE way that sys-
tems are BY FAR the BEST way to go starting out. And by
"system", plugging into someone else's UNTIL you "get it".

Trust me. You do NOT want to "get it" on your own. That's
where knowing the right people come into play.

    5. Finally, It IS all about the LIST (1st), postcard and offer
    (2nd).

    6. DOUBLE finally (laughing), the BEST price points are $77
& $97. These are NOT my conclusions. They come from one
of my mentors who's tested various prices and...as he said
himself, "I'm SURE you there are other price points that work,
    but why bother?"

I actually have a FREE report I just recently finished that I'm
giving away to anyone interested in this business and/or topic.

(no, it's not my signature link). Contact me by PM if you want
    it.

It goes into more detail on most of everything I've learned out
there on the field and what I've put together from a handful of
trusted individuals who "know their $hit".

As a designer I have used various printing companies but have stuck with gotprint.com the longest. They have excellent rates and high quality printing. If you send out more than 500+ postcards (for US - not sure of other countries) you can do bulk mailing which will save you tons on postage.

Personally, post cards have never really worked for me. I guess it depends on what you are trying to sell. If you trying to sell your SEO services, the best way if a quick email stating who you are and why you are contacting them. Tell them that you will call the next day and explain more what you can do for them. This has worked for me and continues to work for me. Enjoy!

I have to COMPLETELY disagree with you here. Postcards are one of the best ways for web design and SEO. The whole breaking the ice with an email, and then calling is too amateurish in my opinion.

If you do direct mail, you're on your way to the big leagues... well, at least big money if you do it right.

It was effective then but eventually online marketing catches up. However, the thing is when a certain technique is almost forgotten it could be effective later on.

One thing that remains is that it is expensive.

Who CARES how expensive it is.

Seriously? Why are people so "hung up" on how costly
it is? I just. Don't. Get it.

Does it MATTER if you're making 2 or 3 to 1 return on
your investment (which is conservative for postcard
      marketers I know)?

Every time I hear "it's expensive" in some way, shape,
or form...that person can't POSSIBLY value their time
as much as they do their money...

because if you're serious you would find ways to make
the money so you CAN do it BECAUSE you value your
      time more than money.

Maybe I'm just crazy. But, seeing my mentors make $3
-$4 for every $1 they spend doesn't sound crazy to
      me...

now, it's EXPENSIVE if you miss a few notes and don't
do a few things right. But even then it's worth trying
to get right in the "bigger picture".

If people look at the COSTS of doing business in terms
of money and not their TIME, you won't get far. Even
if you DO make a decent income online, you're fighting
      an uphill battle with yourself.

Don't have the money for a postcard campaign? Find a
way to MAKE it (job, online marketing, services, etc) &
      go from there.

whatever you do, make sure you have a strong call-to-action on your postcards... and i've gotten better results when they are addressed personally to the business owner.

      I agree.

This is all about the response mechanism.

How will your message stand out against all the other mail and interruptions these guys get every day?

Postcard marketing can be effective, but the key is the content of the ad itself, rather than the medium.

Split test your cards. If you have a list of 1,000 to mail to, make sure you split that list up and mail different cards to portions of the list and monitor the conversions very carefully.

Also, cost control is an important factor but not the overriding one. Fortunately for us, my brother (who has a lot of experience on physical print production) has officially joined my team. We're currently acquiring our own RISO which will allow us to step up production and dramatically slash costs -- but that sort of arrangement isn't financially available to those who can't justify the initial outlay for equipment.
