Signing up to your SMS services

I am very excited to be part of what I think is the leading edge of hot things mobile - cell phone optimized websites and text marketing.
I know about cold calls, vistis to potential clients and all that.

There has not been a lot of discussion of signing up and keeping clients so I would like to start a thread here.

For those of you who offer a SMS marketing service:
1. What do you do to get clients and retain clients. I.E - do you offer a free month and help them get people to opt in?
I am sure the big things they want to see is having people opt in quickly to gather a good list, and see first hand how text marketing will bring the people into their establishment.
2. Whats the best morketing tools to get the people to opt in - table tents, newspaper ads, radio ads......

Thanks in advance for the views on this topic. Kathi

To get clients: Create 2-3 specific ways they can use SMS Marketing for their business, and set up demo opt-in responses for them to text in and try when you talk to them. Free trials are tricky because the client may not do anything (or enough) to see any results, and get a bad taste initially. The best thing is to "consult" with your potential clients and teach/demonstrate how they can use SMS to make money.

Quickly building lists: You are right, this is critical to getting clients over the hump, and fully bought-in to using Text Marketing. While table tents, web opt-ins and flyers will bring steady traffic, things like Contests, Raffles, Voting, Quizzes and Instant Win campaigns will build lists very quickly.

Create a free weekly giveaway club and draw a winner every week. A restaurant could giveaway a free meal each week, a golf course a free round of golf, a hair salon a free style, whatever. Use that to encourage people to opt in. Since you are only sending one text message per week to the winner, the other people on the list can receive other offers during the month without sending too many.

We work with a lot of consultants and agencies here at Trumpia and have seen many of them with great success using either our white label reseller program or fully manage campaigns for the clients! I've responded to your questions below.

    1. The majority of our consultants who use the Trumpia White Label Reseller program tend to offer some sort of free trial to get a businesses to test their platform. For our fully managed consultants, they do everything from start to finish to maximize the success of their client's campaign.

    2. Print advertisements and multimedia are great outlets but the best way for a business to get people to opt in is by training and having their employees actively push their mobile campaigns onto their clients. We've seen businesses that have been proactive in this aspect are much more successful versus those that simply print out a flier and put it on their counter or on tabletops.

I would think that the contest and instant win ideas are a good way to ramp up traffic quickly. I am sure many restaurants already do similar promotions in traditional marketing efforts.

Good point about a potentially uncommitted client if the first month is free.
