Postcard Marketing - a small win!

I decided to delve into postcard marketing so i created my own postcard and sent it out to 50 local veterinarians in my area marketing SMS services. The postcards went out on Tuesday and today I received a call from one of the people that received the card and I have an appointment next week for a demonstration. I'm pretty pumped. Postcard marketing works!

Congrats on a positive result... BUT... why the heck would a vet need SMS services?

A vet could offer their clients appointment reminder services or when vaccinations are due etc or just plain old coupons, new product announcements etc.

          Response from Scott's other post:
There are actually three types of applications for a Vets office.
          1) Marketing: Coupons, Contests, Promotions, Product Sales, etc.
          2) Reminders: set up reminders for both re-ordering medications (heartworm/flea) and for scheduling annual check-ups. Our Reminder module includes a feature to include a coupon, which entices them to order or schedule slightly earlier than the normal time frame, hopefully increasing the frequency of ordering/visits.
          3) Customized Appt Reminders: client uploads appt data into SMS platform and customers get a personalized reminder that they can respond whether to Confirm or Cancel the appt, the "Cancels" can be alerted by text to Office Manager who can call them immediately.
          Hope this helps!

Prices will be all over the board as there are SMS providers charging anywhere from 1-9 cents per message! Look at it this way, if a Text Appointment Confirmation software helps prevent 2-4 appointments per month from going open (people forget, cancel last minute, etc), what is that worth to the vet?

I was at the vet's office yesterday morning to get one of my dog's teeth cleaned (and a few extracted). He asked me if I would like to save some money on the bill.

            I said, "Yes."

He said if I buy some tiny bag of dog food for $15.99, Purina would send me a check for $50. Would I be interested...

Before he could finish his sentence I said "You betcha!"

He laughed because the overwhelming majority of people he has presented this offer too declined. (I have 5 dogs and they cost an arm and an leg to take care of in vet bills.)

So, you think some 160 character SMS message is going to do a better job than a postcard? The vet's "pitch" to me was more than 160 characters, plus he showed me the bag of dog food plus the coupon:

If this vet isn't touching base with his clients once a month with simple postcards I'd shine on SMS.

If this vet isn't husslin' new biz by ECRWSS postcards to everyone within a few miles of his biz I'd shine on SMS.

Plus I told the vet, before he goes into his pitch about the $50 he should pull out a real $50 bill from his wallet and present it to the client and then ask the question. (Naturally he'd pull it away once he goes into his pitch.)

              Heck! Where's your vet? I'll gladly give him $15.99 in ecxhange for a $50 rebate---and I don't even own a dog!

He already has the name and address of every client. He can and probably already does via a simple computer generated postcard.

I think that is something we often miss out on, that we don't know what the client needs but rather what we think they need.

Maybe the vet would appreciate a qr code on a window sticker. Make one for them and then go over the benefits of mobile marketing. If they are not interested, then the only thing you're out is a few minutes of your time, some printer ink, and the cost of the window cling.

Probably? I doubt that. In fact, I don't gamble, I do "creative investing" and I would invest a Benjamin he doesn't.

You forget that many brick and mortar businesses are not adept or know little of the marketing prowess we internet marketers have. To you and I, various marketing methods are at our disposal, but the average B&M business, yellow pages, newspaper ads and websites with weak or non-existant SEO are about as far as it goes.

That's no reason not to ALSO use SMS. He should be using several methods of staying in touch. As long as each method can generate enough business each month to make a profit ... include it in the 'marketing mix.'

Congrats for the first meeting, however, i think this is one of the slowest options to use. You may use many other options...

I like this option for the beginner. Yes it's slow but a good way to break the ice and snag that first client. Especially if you are reticent about the interactions of selling.

how about finding out who the customer's wireless carrier is and then figuring out the code to send text to their phone via email. Like sprints is wirelessnumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com.

I'm heading over to your vet, mr subtle! I have 4 dogs and my vet bills are what keeps me working more than 8 hours a day.

Former veterinarian here...did you ask the vet what he gets out of promoting the dog food??? Do you know how many new cases of diarrhea he'll see because of a sudden food change!! Maybe that's what he's hoping for

Congratulations on taking action. This is a service that vets...or anyone else with a similar business, can really benefit from.
