Finally! Made $400 Offline Yesterday

I finally landed a big offline client who I'm doing some web design for and he paid me $400 upfront. We agreed upon him paying half for me to get started and than paying the other half when I finish this week.

It feels so good making money this way (in one day too) and having a bank account jump up a digit. I only wish I marketed myself sooner but there's room to scale and grow.

Now I just need to work on getting clients like this every day or every other day.

        I used Craigslist JohnMoney.

I posted my ad up in the small business section and wrote that I'm offering my services to small businesses that want a web presence or market their site online. I post ads every couple of days or so and the response so far has been good, probably about a 1 client per every 4 ads I post. Keep in mind I am in New York so it may depend on where you live. Small businesses in NYC must remain competitive with their marketing or else they'll eventually go out of business.

Of course you have to weed through the cheapskates and guys who don't know what they want/ take forever to get back to you. I made the mistake of taking on a cheap, demanding client once before- never again.

I was very nervous before the meeting but he basically wrote the check and wants to get it done ASAP.

I actually have another meeting with a potential client tomorrow. *Fingers crossed*

Yeh, isn't that a great feeling?...to me when I get that check, I have two feelings: one of responsibility and the other of validation. I am reminded of the promise I made to the client to use my best efforts to help his marketing and further reinforcement that what I'm doing is the best way in town to make a living.

    This is a great business.

It does feel good doesn't it. keep on pushing. I have looked in the local papers and targeted local business owners. Look around and send them a mailer packet of what you could do for them-the response would be great-that way let them come to you. Don't forget use this clients site/package as a testimonial for the next-with their permission of course!-word of mouth will also bring you a bit of business! good luck

Well done! Keep up the good work.

Craigslist has worked OK for me, too, but not great on its own. Once you get the work finished, be sure to go for referrals. They won't refer people in their business (competition), but most business owners know other business owners, and they'll gladly refer you to them if they are not competitors.

Awesome! Glad to hear that you are having success. What industry are they in? Are you doing web design or search engine optimization?

They're in different industries from real estate to flower shops to small startups. I'm getting a good range of industries.

My current client is a big real estate firm in Midtown. It's a bit of a strange feeling having a CEO and his marketing team look to me across the boardroom table (I'm just a recent college grad who knows web design) for help growing their company but it's also a good feeling.

In regards to the second question I offer everything I have skills in- web design, online marketing, social marketing. This has taught me that when we think what we know isn't of value to someone you're probably not giving yourself enough credit because not only is it valuable- it's also in high demand.

      Congratulations Ehanson. Way to go!

Now keep and remember how you feel about that and keep moving on.
You got the hardest one down, the first one, now do your best to make
that client happy so he/she can hire you again and then they'll recommend
      you to others as well!

Great job! (hands clapping icon here)

Nice work, after you finish the design job you should try to sell other offline services to this new client.
