Domain name for a local business in a very small town

Hello!
I'm making a website and a mobile website for a pizza place in a town that only has a population of 617. This town is on the Oregon coast and gets lots of tourists.

How important is a keyword rich domain in a small town? They will be on the first page of Google no matter what!

I'm thinking I'll just get the .com and .mobi of the name of their pizza joint.
Any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Kathy

It will really depend on your strategy.

What else will you be setting up?

Well, let's see....I hadn't planned on setting up anything else .
There's Google Places listings for the town name/restaurants,
but not town name/pizza! I guess I should offer to set up Google Places listing, make a video and do a press release! I don't know! How does that sound?
      Thanks for your suggestions!

I would set up some classified sites, press release, and a merchant circle listing at least.

You should be ok with the name of the business and then just make sure you sprinkle in your search phrases in the body and make a few blog posts on your search phrases you are targeting. Or at least create 1 page with the phrase in it.

It really depends on what they want as well. Sometimes I have clients that dont care if the name of there business is the domain name and sometimes they want it to be.

So my strategy changes with each client. bottom line is just dominating the searches for that city.

Yes, that sounds like a good plan, Dr. Dan. I just set up an Urbanspoon listing and uploaded their menu to it. I talked to the owner a little while ago and we decided to go ahead with the business name domain name since it will be easy to rank. I think it will be very easy to dominate the search and I'm sure they'll be pleased! Maybe I'll get a free pizza from them someday! LOL

Heck ya on the free pizzas.

I get free vacations, free hair salon services (for my wife and kids), Auto-repair, Food from restaurants, and more.

Trades are a powerful thing. Work something out on a monthly basis for free pizzas.

Yes! Unfortunately, (but maybe fortunately, because pizza's fattening!) the pizza place is about 50 miles from where I live. But I have a client who owns a really nice seafood and lounge here that I usually get half cash and half gift certificate. Also, I'm doing some work for my mechanic on a barter basis. He did a bunch of work on my RV in exchange!
              It's wonderful!

Have a fantastic rest of the week!

              Kathy :-)

                Pizza is fattening? lol...

Maybe that should be on the site

But seriously, put your thinking cap on and think of how you could use the free pizzas to promote yourself even more!

You could donate them to a local kids sports team in your business name. That will get you some more free exposure.

You can hold a weekly Meetup.com for business owners wanting to learn how to market themselves online and offer free pizza.

                The options are limitless!

                  Hi again Dan!
Thanks for the great suggestions! Those are really good ideas.
I'm going to put my thinking cap on and leave it on while I sleep!
I have to start a real JOB today bartending at a local oceanfront
resort. It's not full time, but it is 3 or maybe 4 nights a week.

As soon as I took the job, I got all kinds of people wanting
websites! Oh well, I could use the extra money and there will be
lots of local business people coming in that I can network with and hopefully help with their online endeavors!

                  Bye for now,

                  Kathy

Are they in close driving distance to any major cities? Perhaps you could do both...

      Hi Summertime Dress,
The nearest big city is about an hour and a half drive.

    This raises another related question.

If you are in a large city (like Sydney) is it OK to rank your customers site for a local suburb or that city rather than the city itself?

Obviously the larger main city would get much more traffic for the client but would be much harder to rank for in most cases, depending on the keyword phrase being targetted.

Lets say you are building a site for a local plumber who does not want to travel too far for his jobs but want to cover a few local suburbs only.

I think it would be very much OK to rank your customers site for a local suburb, and definitely much easier, but of course you should try to rank for the big city, too, unless he or she only wants to work in the suburbs.
      Have a nice evening,
