Reality Check - Are You Ready for Offline Success?

Success in any walk of life is about discipline, confidence, belief in your ability, precision and persistence in your execution of tasks and goals.

So then,*

Ask yourself the following questions in the context of pursuing your offline business and see if the answers surprise you or if you agree...

Who do you want to persuade?
A. Business owners

What do you want to persuade them to do?
A. Invest in my services, website design, seo... etc

Why do you want to persuade them?*
A. Because it rewards *you with greater financial freedom...etc

How will you persuade them?
A. Using various methods which demonstrate the business potential of the Internet for them. (Many great examples found here in the forum)

Final question...

If you do persuade them are you qualified to deliver?

Read that question again and be honest with the answer . Are you 110% confident that you can deliver what you promise?

If the answer is yes, I can guarantee that you currently make good money in the offline Market or will shortly begin to.*

If the answer is not so certain, then again be honest with yourself and spend more time learning and implementing on your own websites and marketing projects, before trying to convince business owners of something you yourself are not so sure of.

The reason I wanted to share this was because when I turned my attention to making money using the internet I had good intentions and a huge amount of desire. These things cannot replace confidence, and confidence my friends is the thing that will drive you everyday to pick up the phone and cold call a business owner "just to chat". And that chat will quickly turn into a demonstration of your expertise, leading to a business meeting and a new customer!*

Confidence will carry you through a 2 hour consultation at the end of which you walk away with a $5000 check.*

Confidence will encourage you to invest in your own seo, so your site ranks with the big boys - drawing more customers.

Confidence comes from belief in your ability to deliver, which can only come from experience.*

So keep learning, keep sharing, keep taking on challenge after challenge, living and growing day by day.

I'm *gearing up to begin sharing my business systems with the offline community here in the hope that they will help change lives, just as the members of this forum have over time helped change mine.

To your success,

Your fellow warrior.

Another good post and I totally agree with your posting.

I made it a point to attend a lot of networking groups this year with the mindset that there is no competition ... only opportunities to work together.

I am not a web designer, all my sites and sites that I produce for clients are Wordpress. If they want a high end website I put them in touch with someone who will produce a quality and affordable site.

I then focus on my strengths SEO and marketing. If people are just starting out they should recognise they won't be an expert at everything but they can be the centre of the action and get things done.

This is a great perspective on things. A good proportion of my new clients regularly come from my strategic partners. Search on Google for web designers in your local area. I bet half of them dont provide SEO services and dont know how to. Well guess what, call them and ask them to refer SEO work to you for their own clients in return for a referral fee. Better still, tell them they can white label your SEO services.

I do the same with many trades people and consultants, generally anybody with access to business owners, in a position to refer my services.

I think you hit it right on the head!

I can admit that four years ago I DID NOT have the skills to sell my services to other business - but I did anyways. The result was a lot, I mean A LOT, of sleepless nights worrying about delivering quality. A LOT of learning and experience later, I am now more than confident in my abilities.

I've actually wondered about this often - how many people out there have picked up a report and are trying to sell services they have no idea how to deliver. Bad for the customer, bad for them and bad for the industry in general. Anybody in this business hears horror stories from clients on an almost daily basis.

Kudos for being honest! I think we have ALL been there once :-)

Great point, honesty is so important in life and business. When you decide to bend the truth, or bite off more than you can chew - you quickly find yourself on the sharp end of your own poor judgement.

Dont let the desire to succeed cloud your judgement - you only end up crashing when your abilities and confidence let you down.

Great post. Reminds me of the old-school marketing techniques that made business owners successful in their minds before they actually started making money. And i think it's a great place to start.

To have success in your offline business, you have to be dedicated and persistent. I realized this after i failed 5 straight times of doing direct mail. Luckily, i was able to discover the formula for making direct mail work on the 6th attempt - but it took me thousands and thousands of dollars to discover it.

Anyhoot... i think "social joe" hit the mark, and that all offline business should consider his advice.

    This is so true.

To further illustrate your point, I had a client pay me $1000 to put together a direct mail letter for him.

It was the easiest money, I've ever made. It never even entered my mind that it would fail. I know copywriting because I've done it for many years with great results, so my confidence is pretty high there.

But several months later, the same client asked me to build him a ecommerce website and I was stressed out for weeks and eventually ended up farming it out. Which is what I should've done from the beginning.

    Confidence is the key.

Now, the real question for most folks is how do you get that confidence. The simple answer is...by doing the very thing which you are inexperienced at doing, but need to gain confidence in order to do.

    Now, that's irony for ya.

Or joint venture with someone you know can deliver a high value service.

It can be a mistake to think you have to do everything yourself.

No large, successful business was ever built that way.

It's okay to partner with people who have more skill than you do in areas that are valuable to you and your clients.

I completely agree with this, I started out on my own about 5 years ago. It was a nightmare, I averaged about 10 - 15hrs of sleep a WEEK! I finally got to a point that I had to either stop taking so many clients, or start finding help. Take it from me, your health is not worth the business. Be smart, outsource if you can or find someone with equal passion and take the world by storm.
