Obtaining SEO Clients

p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; } I have noticed on the Offline Forum as well as the Warrior Special Offers as well as the Internet Marketing Forum that their seems to be a common thread. Everyone is seeking a good way get clients.

First let me say there is no magic bullet. I have struggled with the issue myself and I have a stuttering problem so talking to clients is hard for me....but I have noticed that most WSO's about obtaining clients all point to the "Warrior Forum" and the "Hire a Warrior" as an ideal way to get clients. Most WSO's I have bought have been summed up in this phase "Use The Warrior Forum to get clients."

Yet most people on this forum run around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to obtain clients. It's funny they fail to realize the best way to obtain clients for whatever they are selling can be had on this forum itself.

Secondly I think many people are trying to sell in a industry that is already saturated. SEO for example. For me I have found the best way to sell SEO is to partner with Web Design firms. This is how I get business for my SEO business. I find Website firms that need SEO people and offer to work with them as on a as needed basis. Sorry but cold calling is giving SEO a bad name.

If you run an SEO business and you are not working with website firms the best way to get clients to build you a decent website and get ranked in google for local cities such as "SEO Chicago." Get your site ranked in all of the major cities in America. Getting your site ranked locally is also relatively easy, if you can't do that you should not be in the SEO business. Also if you are selling SEO and you have no track record in SEO you really should not be selling SEO anyways. Get your own SEO site ranked first and then start selling SEO to other businesses.

So far I have covered three methods to get clients...let's review them.

  1. The Warrior Forum under the "Hire A Warrior Section"
  2. Work as an independent contractor for SEO firms.
  3. SEO your own website to get clients.

Craigslist is also a method to get clients. However consider your clients you get from Craigslist might be low quality clients.

Consider advertising your SEO service on Ebay. You know I have seen some really nice ads on Ebay for people selling their SEO services and they are selling their SEO services at market value an it looks like they are getting clients.

Notice with all of these methods clients are coming to you and you are not going them. I have found this to be the best way to get SEO clients. Warm clients are always best as well, why call or email a person who does not want your service to begin with?

Last point businesses owners are suspicious of SEO. SEO has a bad name already. Honesty it is not the best industry to be in. If you are not knee deep in it then get out of it and find something less that is less saturated and has more of a future.

If not take my tips....I think they might help you.

We have generated over 5000 seo clients in the last year from the WF. It takes a bit of work to differentiate yourself from the other would be vendors but it certainly is possible.

Where do you get this information? Your testimony won't cut it, so I'd like to know, if you don't mind.
Please don't take that as being rude, just being me and being straight up.

Because I'm in the bizz of getting more customers to my clients using my skills and I find most all
mom 'n pop, brick 'n mortor businesses don't even know what SEO is.

That is a very good point. I think most companies don't know how powerful being #1-#3 on the page 1 of Google or Bing can be for their business. Just a little education for these companies can earn them exponential income from the internet.

A recent article in the axandra.com newsletter has some recent stats regarding top search positions.....the article was sent April 26, 2011
The stats come from optify.net (have to sign-up to download the PDF article....the PDF has some very useful graphs & charts)

"According to Optify, the web pages on position one get a click-through rate (CTR) of 36.4%. Position 2 gets a CTR of 12.5%. The CTR's for position 3-10 are 9.5%, 7.9%, 6.1%, 4.1%, 3.8%, 3.0%, 2.2%. The top results get as many clicks as results 2-5 combined"

Print this out & show to potential clients....clients love actual statistics.

        Hope this helps,

It's not about generating clients, it's about RETAINING them, ongoing.

From what I've seen, there are 2 types of potential clients:

    1) Those who know about and appreciate being ranked at the top of Google by using SEO.

    2) Those who don't know the meaning of SEO and don't see the benefit of the internet for their business.

The first type of client is easier and faster to close because they have the education. The second type of client is expensive to work with in terms of pre-sales because they need to be educated. I prefer the educated client.

I don't approach any client selling "naked" SEO. It's like selling a hammer. There are way too many hammers in the market with little differentiation. Most people don't want to buy a hammer for the sake of buying a hammer. They buy a hammer to make a hole. To take it further, people buy hammers, nails, and other tools to make something a like a shed.

So I approach a client with the goal of understanding what kind of shed they want to build. For small businesses, they want to get more customers more consistently and more cost effectively than they are currently.

The funny thing about this is as offline marketers, we face the same challenge. This can make for a good initial dialogue with the small business owner.

To the point made earlier, it pays to be ranked for your business on Google and Bing. When you go have the discussion with the small business owner, you can talk about how being ranked has helped you get incoming prospects. After you get a few customers under your belt, you can also talk about how your other customers have gotten leads and calls by being ranked at the top of the search engines for their business.

The key is to talk to them about how they can get more customers for their business at a more cost effective price than their current method.

It depends a lot on your skills, strengths and interests - let us know what they are.

However, you can still do SEO, even in a saturated market. You can market as a consultant or for smaller packages that involve video marketing, mobile marketing (and that can be split into sites, QR Codes, bluetooth marketing, etc).

When you have established a good relationship, then you can introduce the concept SEO. If they need it, and even if they've been getting loads of phone calls offering the service, they will be more inclined to listen to you.

Getting new clients could be made easy if you have one of your existing clients do an endorsement ad on your behalf. You could run a full page ad in a magazine in your niche, and let the whole page resemble an endorsement letter from your client. Have the client speak in 3rd person about you, and include your contact info at the bottom of the letter. Like you said, it's all about getting clients to come to you, instead of you going to them. And i think this strategy will help to accomplish that.

      Very good advice!

Last week I was thinking about the following possibility: focus on sites that are offered on Flippa. And then I don't mean the $100 sites. But sites from $25.000 and up. After the sale give them a week and then approach them. I know a few guys there buying sites, they sure do not have the time to do SEO work. So if you have a good package, I'm sure they will go for it!
