Hello. I would like to ask, is it legal to print papers advertising your product and put them in people's mailbox, and hire people to give flyers to random people passing by?

    Mailbox = NOOOO
Now, many houses will have a newspaper holder under their mailbox - that is OK.

It's absolutely legal to do this.

Provided you affixed the proper stamp.

Many years ago I was promoting my business and was stuffing a flyer,
sometimes, right into the mail box. One day I got a call from the Post
Master in that area. He asked for me personally, since my info was on
the flyer, then told me I couldn't do that. He then asked how many I
distributed in mail boxes. I said "Three". I was lying through my teeth as
it had to have been a minimum of 200, but he said, "Well, I have 3 here
and you should be liable for the postage, but I'll let it go this once." I
said, "Sorry about that, won't happen again." !!!

He did mention I was to have a stamp on them.

Don't know about now, but back then, yes. All you had to do was make sure the proper postage amount was attached to the parcel when it was set in the mailbox.

To settle this it would be easier to just call the post office direct and ask. When I have questions, that's what I do. This way it isn't hearsay and a more trustful source of information.

It is my understanding, although that people have to buy their mailbox with their own money, the post office governs it's placement, height, distance from road, etc. Also, when you do place material for mailing or for the recipient to receive something you give them in the box, proper postage has to be affixed to it or you can get fined. Refer to 18 USC Section 1725 for clarification.

Their website is here: USPS - The United States Postal Service (U.S. Postal Service)

      Good luck,

Not quite what the OP asked but definitely worth a mention here....

If you put your flyers on cars in the parking lot
at your local indoor mall, most likely security will
drive up in no time, and alert you of their policy
which prohibits distributing flyers on vehicles.

ONCE UPON A TIME there was a Warrior named Bob. He was sad. And frustrated. You see, Warrior Bob spent every last nickel on Internet Marketing e-books. But nothing panned out. No traffic. No sales. He was one sad Bob. Then one day Bob found a bottle. He rubbed it and out came a Genie who granted him 3 wishes. For Wish #1 Bob asked for a pet Dragon. Wish Granted. For Wish #2, Bob wanted Warriors' websites seen by 53 million TV viewers, for under $5 per broadcast. The Genie said... (click here)
