Clients that cease service / stop payment.

I was wondering on what you warriors do when a client ceases to pay and or cancels the service. I have read before that some people backlink to a site that you own and then basically remove the citation or 301 redirect. Or basically own the Google account and remove the whole listing as a whole?

I've just heard of a fellow seoer charging a few bucks to basically get the ball rolling on a new client. After putting in alot of work, and a month later the client decides he wasnt interested any more, hoping his citations and business listing stays.

Well the remedies available if you simply do work on the client site only are minimal. If you maintain the passwords and accounts used to create the profiles and backlinks then you can do whatever you want.

This type of situation only highlights the reason to do lease/rental sites. If they stop paying, lease the site to their competitors.

Why would you not charge upfront? Charge a setup fee, and a monthly fee... if they cancel the next month, you got paid, so it doesn't matter. Next step, is to sell your services to their competitors.

6-12 Months contracts are enough to send potential scammers to other companies.

Sometimes I end up losing good customers, but sometimes it's my best defense. Last week had one company trying to close deal with us, but they wanted a month by month deal.

When my instinct told me to STOP it, I told the customer we wanted a 12 months contract, 3 months paid in advanced. Otherwise, no deal.

Guess what? Never heard from them again. Not saying they aren't good folks, but in this business you need to be able to rule the game - not the opposite. We're not selling oranges.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

With SEO then you do a 301 redirect.

Google places - personally I just leave that alone because it's their listing.
