Purchasing expired domains with PR - Advantage or Disadvantage

Recently we have started to purchase blog posting & blog roll on several domains with pr 3 or higher. On Average, we are asked to pay any where between $6 to $20. This got me thinking, I could just purchase a clean domain that has an existing PR for $8 and I know for a fact that all of the content on this page is related to my categories (home improvement)

So my question, is there an advantage to simply purchasing an expired domain with PR or should I simply stay away from this idea. Now I understand PR are updated every couple of months to what I know, but might be wrong.

Now since this domain has already expired, does that mean that the age of the domain resets as well?

Can anybody recommended a good place to search for expired domains with page rank. Please message me any ideas.

Thanks and good day.

    Hi

I have done this in the past, and it depends on where the PR comes from. If it's from links spread around the web, the the PR may return after you've had the domain a while, but you will probably not inherit the PR immediately.

Sometimes, the PR can be from very few high PR links, and if those are redirected when the domain expired, you will not really benefit that much.

Sometimes though, depending on your niche, and if the domain matches the niche, you might get type-in traffic or general traffic from people's favourites.

Either way, it's a gamble, but for just $8, might be worth it. Be careful where you host your new domain though, as if it's on the same server / IP as your main site, the link may be downgraded in Google SERPS.
