Help! Initial Setting up for Offline Client - Questions?

Hi, I have not really started offline yet, but someone wrote to me from my freelance writing site. She wants more than content. Asking for SEO, Google Places, local search, improve PR, etc.

While I know how to optimize sites for my own business, and understand SEO (mostly), etc. Here are my questions I am hoping the offline experts can help me with since it is the local stuff I don't know a lot about.

1. For Google Places, will she have to set that up since the postcard confirmation from Google will go to her place of business?

2. What are the best suggestions for improving PR?

3. What is local search submission - h card?

4. What other things can I do to help this girls website as far as ranking, traffic, etc.? I know there is a TON of stuff, but I guess just a couple simple things to get the ball rolling. Alexa ranking, local, etc.

5. Off all the reports/WSO being sold here - anyone you would recommend (honestly)?

6. What is a reasonable price for all of this (local SEO, content, web development, etc)? Budget is $950/mo. and I don't want to be unreasonable.

7. Lastly, what is the best way to bill this? Is PayPal okay??

Thanks everyone!!!!

    Hi Julie,

Maybe an easier (and simpler) solution would be to just outsource such tasks to someone experienced in those areas.

Find out what your outsourcer would cost, mark up your own profit, then voila...project gets done, you get paid to make sure its completed, and then you can focus your energy on bringing in MORE business (not on servicing clients).

This will let you scale your business much faster than trying to learn (and do) everything yourself...

    Food for thought

As far as what to charge: That depends on how much value (i.e. additional revenue) your services would bring the business. At the end of the day it's about return on investment.

Paypal works great for collection, as does monthly cheques (if convenient to do so).

This is true, I will probably outsource SOME of the work, but I'd like to learn what is involved with some of this before I start outsourcing.

I think the one thing I will probably outsource is backlinking, but I would like to be involved in the initial setup - or at least understand the process as I build up future business.

    1. You can do the set up for your client, but the client will have to confirm the listing, by responding to the post card.

    2. Improving PageRank is simply a matter of building more and better quality links to your clients' website. But PageRank is part of Google's smoke-and-mirrors.

High PageRank is not necessary to rank well in Google.

Too many people get caught chasing PageRank and not making their SEO cost-effective or profitable. Don't let your client help you fall into that trap.

    3. There are a couple of ways to go about local submission. Basically, you are getting a client listed in the "local search engines" and the search engines that serve local queries.

You can outsource that to Universal Business Listings, but they do not provide any reports to show you what they have done.

Or you can do it yourself, using the guidelines provided at GetListed.org.

    4. Link building, link building, link building. Winning in Google requires inbound links from third-party websites. I have a guide in my signature that will give you more information about this.

    5. I just put out a low-cost guide called the 12-Month Local SEO Blueprint. Check it out.

    6. I advise to charge between $750 and $1500 per month, depending on your clients' budget. Using the guide I have outlined, you can outsource the entire process for around $350 per month.

    7. Billing should be left to "Ease of Use" by your client. If your client prefers to pay by credit card, set a subscription up through paypal. If your client prefers to pay by check, set up a bank account for your business so you can cash those checks.

@tpw Thanks that was really helpful. I know people get caught up in the PR thing, but this is advice I can pass on. Thanks for the references. Wow! I didn't think I could charge that much - her budget was max $950. I think that is reasonable after the initial set up.

Does your guide just go into local SEO or other details on how to set up clients. I guess am looking for a checklist type guide with ideas. (i.e. Set up Google Places, Set up WP blog, market through xxx, etc)

      Yes, yes and yes.

It documents month 1 through month 12, and it tells you what you are trying to accomplish and why, how to do it, and where to outsource it.

Google Places and local search placement is month #1.

There is a bonus guide that covers the setup of a WordPress blog.

By month #3, you need your client to have a website in place.

I think you will find this package has everything you need to get started and to keep your clients happy and coming back for more services.

If you are just looking for the help with SEO, then you need the 12-Month Local SEO Blueprint.

The Offline Marketing & Consulting Goldmine is a much larger package, which also covers: Getting your foot in the door, Upsell Opportunities and an examination of a range of Offline Business Models.

The second package would be better if you are looking to build a business that encompasses more services than just SEO. The SEO product is actually from module #2 of the Offline Marketing & Consulting Goldmine product.

    1. Set up Google Places with her info and have her contact you when she receives the Post Card.

    2. To raise PR, Links, Links and more Links. Then Links that have a high PR. Then some more links. And do that on a consistent (everyday) basis.

    3. Local Submission is usually the Name, Address & Phone Number to her business to the Local Business Directory sites. Use UBL.

    4. The first thing to help her site would be to make sure it is onsite optimized for the proper keywords. Then start building links with those keywords.

    5. Maria Gudelis has a lot of good Offline stuff that is really helpful.

    6. Usually charge a start up fee of say 1 or $2,000. Then a monthly fee in between $500 and $1000. And then find a Good Outsource guy for $500/month.

    7. PayPal is a great way to bill
